Job description

Our client is a leading provider of engineering solutions for both oil and gas and petrochemical projects. Due to recent workload they require a Lead Buyer to work from their busy North East office.


The Role


Set department goals and objectives in line with business goals and objectives.
Conduct appraisals for Senior Buyers and Buyers in line with personal, departmental and overall business objectives
Daily co-ordination and resource allocation within the procurement team for all project related and non-project related requirements
Lead and control all aspects of the project procurement process for bought in equipment, goods and services. This will include, where necessary, the establishment and maintenance of gated procurement processes that link staged design, manufacture or fabrication milestones and FATs, against payment terms.
Manage supplier selection decisions on all major projects and present the strategic options to the relevant stakeholders such as the Operations Director, Head of Projects and Projects Managers
Maintain Approved Supplier List
Planning of procurement to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity, including assisting with the development of expediting and/or inspection programmes.
Compile and issue all necessary procurement cost and schedule progress reports in line with company/project requirements.
Lead procurement activity from project kick off stage to completion of the project.
Ensure all procured items/services and supplier documentation are expedited on a regular basis to avoid project schedule delays and take action in a timely manner to correct any issues likely to compromise achievement of required KPI’s or client satisfaction.
Maintain full awareness of the commercial position of project procurement at all times, ensuring delay/disruption and variation issues are managed in an appropriate and timely manner, and advise the Cost Engineer and the Project Manager of any procurement issues/risks that may have a significant commercial impact on the project as soon as they become evident.
Working within the Company’s ISO9001 quality systems, ensure all procurement processes meet the contract requirements.
Co-ordinate the project procurement process in such a manner that all targets are met or exceeded.
Help develop and maintain good relationships within and outside the service with all stakeholders and service users.
Undertake all forms of contact on a daily-basis including written correspondence, telephone correspondence and face-to-face contact on a range of subject areas.
Ability to perform the role as a principal project procurement consultant, and if necessary, personally deliver the procurement requirements for all stages of a typical EPC project.
Familiar with the whole lifecycle of procurement services from project concept stage through to close-out.
A good understanding of the availability and use of all electronic tools available to a project procurement department (especially SAGE, ProArc and the MS Office suite of software). Generating requisitions in SAGE.
Co-ordinating the procurement of consumables and hiring equipment.
Overseeing the expediting of vendor materials, equipment, certification and related documents.
Liaising with suppliers to acquire delivery documents and generating Material Movement Tickets.
Goods Receipt in SAGE.
Working as part of the team assisting as required with the implementation of daily procurement transactions being managed by the Sr Buyers and Buyers.
General Procurement administration.


The Person


Minimum of 5 GCE’s grade C or above including Maths and English
Member of Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply
Minimum 4 years as a Buyer/Senior Buyer in an EPC environment within the Oil & Gas, Energy or Renewables industry
Knowledge of engineering/construction industry would be advantageous.
Familiar in the use of SAGE Procurement module.
Excellent organisational skills with ability to prioritise tasks.
Capable of working on own initiative and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
Good internal and external communication skills.
Microsoft Office/ Word/Excel skills.
Demonstrable significant success in a procurement position during all stages of projects.
Must be fully conversant with all current HSE and procurement legislation appropriate to the Oil & Gas and Energy industries, and a comprehensive understanding of quality systems to ISO9001 standards
