Job description

"Our mission is to provide an inclusive, international education in a safe, happy, supportive and stimulating environment where all the needs of the individual learner are met. Students are inspired to be the best they can be, enabling them to become responsible global citizens."

Physics/Science Teacher

Physics is a popular and well-established subject at St. Andrews and we are looking for an experienced and inspiring teacher to join the Science team. Class sizes are small and the students are motivated and enthusiastic, enjoying a lively approach to the subject through a wide range of teaching and learning techniques. The ideal candidate will convey enthusiasm for the subject and contribute collaboratively in the continued development of the curriculum from Year 7 to Year 13.

All students study Science throughout Key Stage 3, with schemes of work based on the English National Curriculum but adapted to reflect both the international nature of our students and to better prepare them to study single Sciences at both IGCSE and IB. At Key Stage 4, all students must study at least one Science, with many studying two or more, chosen from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. In Key Stage 5, all students must study at least one Science as part of the IB Diploma Programme, with many students studying two or three chosen from Biology, Chemistry, Computer Studies, Design Technology, Environmental Systems and Societies and Physics. Physics is a popular subject at both IGCSE and at IB, and previous experience teaching these courses would be a significant advantage.

At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs. Experience of teaching children with dyslexia, mild autism, ADHD etc. would be very good prior experience for a teacher wishing to join our team. x`Our Mission Statement commits us to meeting ‘all the needs of the individual learner’, and this applies equally to those students targeting the very highest grades at IGCSE and IB.

Practical work and investigations are fundamental aspects of the teaching philosophy at St Andrews. The science department is very well resourced and has excellent technical support, with several full-time Science Technicians supporting the department. All students bring a laptop/tablet to lessons, and there is a strong commitment to integrating technology into all areas of the curriculum.

As well as their teaching, all teachers are also expected to contribute positively to both the school’s pastoral systems and the extra-curricular programme, offering an Extra-Curricular Activity that either supports or extends the students’ learning in their subject area, or from another area of personal interest.

St Andrews is committed to ensuring the safety of all our students, and expects all staff to share the same commitment (see our Child Protection Code of Conduct ). No teacher will be appointed without at least two references, including one from the most recent employer, a ten year criminal record check and relevant regional Prohibition Order/DBS checks.

The closing date for applications is Friday 26th April 2024 , with applications being reviewed as they are received. Please email [email protected] if you require any further information
