We have an excellent opportunity at Cygnet Hospital Wolverhampton for an experienced and motivated Trainee Forensic Psychologist on the Stage 2, BPS Qualification in Forensic Psychology route.

Cygnet Hospital Wolverhampton is our new state-of-the art 29-bed hospital comprising of two wards that provide acute and PICU services for men in the West Midlands. The service will be opening in mid- 2024.
Cygnet Hospital Wolverhampton will have a full multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and will support the acute needs of adults requiring rapid access to mental health services, including those who may need an intensive care environment. We’re focused on length of stay and making sure individuals move as quickly and safely as possible from our services to the most appropriate and least restrictive environment for them.
Job Role
The successful post-holder will have a key role in supporting and enhancing the psychological care of patients at the service working closely with the Head of Psychology.
You will support the Head of Psychology with:
Specialist psychological assessments, interpretation from psychological tests, semi-structured interviews, individual and group therapy. You will also consider potential risks and social needs of the client group, relevant to their diagnosis.
Collaboratively develop risk assessments and clinical formulations to inform care and treatment pathways with the MDT.
You will work as part of a dedicated clinical team providing a multi-disciplinary approach to care and stabilisation in a therapeutic environment where the focus is on maximising positive outcomes and recovery.
You will be supported to offer psychological insight and knowledge around the clinical area and provide consultation about the psychological care of the client group to staff, families and other agencies.
You will be involved in service evaluation, audit, research and training within the service.
Clinical supervision will be provided as an important part of personal and professional development with ongoing support for your stage 2 qualification in forensic psychology.
We are looking for someone who is...
A trainee forensic psychologist (must be enrolled on Stage 2, BPS Qualification in Forensic Psychology) with experience in a clinical forensic or mental health setting
A trainee forensic psychologist within 12/18 months of qualifying
Able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Experience of using structured professional judgement risk assessment tools and well as an understanding of some therapeutic models such as compassion focused therapy (CFT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), but not essential
Passionate about working with people with a range of complex mental health needs
Capable of working with difficulties such as physical & verbal aggression, history of offending, drug and alcohol problems and self-harm.
