Gladiator Core Systems and Services (GCSS) provide the BDUK delivered technical solution at RAF Waddington to support team and collective training for today’s joint war fighters. This program is in its delivery phase and links training devices across the UK to provide distributed training in a synthetic environment to the MOD.
The Synthetic Environment Service provides the program with a capability to develop the Synthetic Environment (SE) on-site with end-users and the customer. This team develops Terrain, 3D models, Physics and Behaviour models, Electronic Warfare (EW) Models (RADAR, IR, etc) and LUA scripts.
Position Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Gladiator on-site manager the Team Lead is responsible for team of 3-5 people.
- The role involves working with our customer and end-users to define requirements, management and contribution towards development tasks, test and review of team mates work.
- Strong leadership skills are desirable to lead the team and provide mentorship.
- The lead will attend various meetings and working groups to provide SE Subject Matter Expert (SME) knowledge and capture team tasks.
- The team operates in a similar manner to a software development team. Most tasks are captured and worked through JIRA (an issue tracking product) and development is version controlled using GIT. The team uses a Scrum development process and has set release cycles.
- Other responsibilities include creation of and adherence to Standards and Best Practices that keep the team efficient and ensure compliance with Defence standards.
- Other duties will involve supporting other teams and ensuring that the projects training is delivered successfully.
The roles is predominantly on-site and the successful applicant must be able to hold a minimum of SC clearance.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Distributed and Federated Simulation – Experience or understanding of distributed simulation using DIS or HLA (RPR FOM) standards
- Standards – Compliance with Defence Modelling and Simulation Coherence (DMaSC) through the Defence Modelling and Simulation standards Profile (DMSP)
- 3D Modelling – Experience with or knowledge of 3D modelling best practices and or 3D modelling development software similar to Presagis Creator
- Graphics Development – Manipulation of imagery (Textures) using the GNU Image Manipulation Program
- Agile – Familiar with Agile practices and the role of scrum master for a small development team
- Version Control Systems – Familiarity with version control practices including the use of GIT and branch management practices
- Simulation Terrain – Understanding of terrain material using Geospatial Information to create Elevation, Imagery and Feature data. Tools similar to QGIS, Readymap, Global Mapper and Java scripts
- Atlassian Tool Suite – Utilisation of JIRA, Confluence, Bit Bucket and Sourcetree or similar applications to manage and control development, defects and change requests
- Mak Software – VR-Forces, VR-Vantage and VR-Engage. Experience is advantageous or experience with other, similar applications that are used to provide Computer Generated Forces (CGF), Image Generation (IG) and Role Player (RP) capability within a Synthetic Environment
- MS Access – Modification and creation of complex databases to manage data sets
- A relevant degree would be advantageous
