Job Description

**Role Overview:**
The Home-Based Field Service Engineer in the South East of England (Kent) is responsible for QCS, DCS, and PLC systems, encompassing:

1. **Representing ABB:** Acting as a site engineer to maintain ABB's strong reputation for quality service.

2. **Hardware Support:** Providing preventive and corrective hardware support for QCS, DCS, and PLC equipment, including spare parts and out-of-hours assistance.

3. **Technical Expertise:** Offering high-level technical support for QCS, DCS, and PLC systems, including off-hours assistance.

4. **Maintenance Contracts:** Fulfilling maintenance contract obligations to maintain client relationships.

5. **System Servicing:** Servicing ABB systems, including configuration, calibration, modification, cleaning, adjustment, preventive and corrective maintenance, and documentation.

6. **Client Consultation:** Advising clients on maintenance procedures, system evolution, site planning, operational methods, and process measurement and control.

7. **On-Call Availability:** Being available for customer support outside regular hours and making unscheduled site visits.

8. **Travel:** Travelling throughout the UK to perform tasks and ensure client satisfaction (Note: Based in Kent with periodic South of England & Wales coverage).

9. **Technical Documentation:** Preparing technical reports for internal and external use.

10. **Maintenance Records:** Maintaining accurate maintenance records using ABB tools to monitor system performance.

11. **Additional Duties:** Undertaking tasks assigned by the line manager to support team and organisational success.

This role involves interaction with stakeholders like Field Engineers, Service Operations Manager, UK PAPI Service Manager, Account Managers, Coordination teams, and customers. Challenges include working under pressure, requiring a diverse skill set, participating in a 24/7 On-Call Rota, and maintaining flexibility and self-motivation.

The Successful Applicant

To excel as a Home-Based Field Service Engineer in the South of England, the ideal candidate should:

1. **Education:** Have a degree or HND in Electrical or Measurement & Control Engineering (relevant apprenticeship experience considered).

2. **Technical Expertise:** Be proficient in Quality Control Systems (QCS), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).

3. **Problem-Solving Skills:** Possess strong troubleshooting abilities for hardware and software issues.

4. **Maintenance Competence:** Be capable of performing preventive and corrective maintenance on QCS, DCS, and PLC systems.

5. **Client Focus:** Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills to maintain positive client relationships.

6. **Effective Communication:** Exhibit strong written and verbal communication for client interactions and technical reports.

7. **Independence:** Be able to work unsupervised, make informed decisions, and provide on-site support.

8. **Sales Awareness:** Understand opportunities to promote maintenance services and equipment.

9. **Flexibility:** Be willing to work outside regular hours, participate in on-call duties, and travel across the UK.
