Job Title: Project Design Engineer
Salary: £35k per annum
Location: Walsall
Duration: straight permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday 08:00-16:30
Job Description
* Undertake work on new projects and existing product ranges.
* Design activities from concept through to production validation.
* Take responsibility of the robust design of products.
* Investigate design factors.
* Prepare project engineer data for new product assemblies and components such as technical specifications, BOM's and 3D/2D drawings.
* Ensure the designs meet the customers' requirements.
* Forge strong relationships with the shop floor and other engineering personnel.
* Procurement of project specific materials.

Main Duties and Tasks
* Create and produce designs and technical CAD GA and manufacture drawings, as necessary, for container modification and general fabrication projects using Company supplied software for which training will be supplied.
* Maintain an organised and logical library of all drawings and sketches relating to proposed and live projects such that technical information can be easily and securely stored and retrieved for individual projects, but also within common component types, i.e., doors, windows, frames etc. in accordance with best and Company practice and procedures.
* Assist with the creation, monitoring, modifying, and improving, as necessary: working methods, standard documents, procedures and computer systems within the technical design and drawing areas of container conversions / fabrications part of the business.
* Break down designs to produce materials and components lists for pricing and purchasing.
* Identifying where goods/services/sub-contract elements are required, subsequently locating suppliers and best prices, etc. and ultimately purchase goods ensuring these are correctly identified for associated projects at time of delivery.
* Break down individual projects to create 'order of events' task lists which identify most efficient sequence of events to complete projects, identifying and organising such factors as; materials procurement lead times, sub-assembly production prior to main assembly, etc., which can then be used for production management of work programming through the workshop.
* Work with the manufacturing elements of the company to ensure correct interpretation of technical information, highlight where discrepancies have occurred, work together with others to correct these events, and create working methods/procedures to prevent recurrence.
* Liaise with customers as required on technical and design matters.
* Other appropriate duties, that are within your ability to carry out, that evolve with the growth and expansion of the business and appropriate support of other staff positions either day to day or in holiday / absence situations.
* To always seek to increase knowledge about the business the Company carries out.
* To undertake any training, on or off site, as reasonably requested by the company
As a Project Design Engineer, you will ideally have:
* HND/Degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical or product design would be an advantage).
* Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and product design processes.
* Experience in 3D modelling using Inventor 2022.
* Experience within a busy manufacturing environment.
