Bonus Pastor Catholic College is excited to advertise the role of Deputy Director of PE & Sport and is hoping to appoint a person to start in either April or September 2024.

Salary – MPS/UPS including Inner London Allowance plus TLR .

Bonus Pastor Catholic College is a really exciting place to work, with innovative £22 million buildings and amazing facilities. We are proud of our extensive on-site facilities which include a large playing field, sports hall, MUGA and are in the final planning stages of a full sized 5G Football pitch. This new development will be hugely significant, not only for the College, but for the whole community.

Bonus Pastor Catholic College is an inspirational, oversubscribed mixed comprehensive College, located on the borders of the London Borough of Lewisham and Bromley. Ofsted again awarded the College “Outstanding” status in 2023.

It is our ambition to be amongst the most successful sporting state schools in England but to also have a significant impact on improving physical health and wellbeing for all students who are part of the Bonus Pastor family, as well as all members of the local community. This goal can be achieved by making Bonus Pastor Catholic College a sporting centre of excellence. 

Bonus Pastor Catholic College is seeking to recruit a candidate that demonstrates exemplary leadership behaviours, inspiring departmental staff to support our students at every level of sporting ability. Core to this will be refining our curricular PE offering, expanding sport and enrichment activities and extending our calendar of extra-curricular sports fixtures.

Our PE department includes a Director of PE, Sport and Wellbeing who is also an Associate Assistant Principal, 3 pastoral leaders and the Lewisham Borough Schools Sports Coordinator. The new Deputy Director will line management some of the PE department, be involved in delivering the curriculum and ensure the department maintains exemplary standards. They will also be expected to deliver and develop extra sporting & curricular activities, including the recruitment and organisation of external qualified coaching staff, volunteers and outside bodies to facilitate this. We welcome applications from those who are ready to lead this faculty from the front while working hands-on as part of a highly effective team.

We see sporting opportunities as a vital and integral part of our enrichment programme across all Years 7-11. The College has ambitions to be highly successful in all its sporting fixtures, with our students regularly participating in competitive fixtures across, football (National Cup, Kent Cup, London Cup) and netball (schools competitions). Basketball (Jnr NBA and Lewisham Schools) Rugby (Borough wide) tournaments. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery and expansion of training opportunities, sports participation and all internal and external sporting fixtures across the College for our established sporting teams. 

Our KS3 curriculum is secure and goes beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum. It will be a key responsibility of the Deputy Director to continually review and refine our curriculum model to reflect the needs of our students as well as responding to their physical wellbeing needs. At KS4 students take part in PE and can enhance their studies through either Level 2 BTEC Sport or through GCSE PE, the successful candidate will have some responsibility in the planning and delivery of these courses as well as ensuring excellent outcomes for all our students in collaboration with the Director of Sport and the PE team.

They will be responsible for the delivery of the sporting aspects of the School’s strong and long-standing House System and be responsible for a whole school initiative which directly links to the School’s vision.
