Pure are once again delighted to be working with one of the region’s largest Manufacturers, who are seeking a CHP / Boiler Room Technician on a permanent basis.
As part the Energy Autonomous Production Unit (APU) and shift team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Combined Heat and Power plant (CHP) ensuring that it is running safely to the factory steam requirements and is environmentally compliant. This includes a 45MW Gas Turbine, 30MW Steam Turbine and a 75Bar HRSG boiler. You will also be responsible for electricity export and updating nominations to third party electricity traders.
You will also have the opportunity of working towards operational responsibility of the sites Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plant. This is a varied role, involving both hands on interactions with industrial equipment and the use of the latest process control and computer automation technology, whilst applying knowledge learned.
The successful applicant will be supported through an in-house development programme, with the ability to progress and increase your salary aligned to the completion of training.
The core responsibilities of this position include;- Managing the safe operation of the CHP plant
- Managing the day-to-day shift based operational activities of the CHP/Boiler house and working with the combustion operator in the operation of the Pulp Management AD and Dryers
- Working within a shift-based team, ensuring that process operations are communicated effectively
- As well as working towards AD responsibility which is a 24/7 operation, there is a requirement for monitoring the whole site outside of processing periods escalating issues as required
- Undertake Audio Visual inspections (AVI) and local monitoring of plant and understanding abnormal situations and how to deal with issues
- Respond to any trips or emergency operating conditions to safely minimise situations and restore the plant back to operations
- Responsible for the generation of steam and electrical power for internal and external customers
- Supervising and assisting as required whilst carrying out work on the CHP plant
- Carry out first level maintenance operations within the skill and knowledge level of the technician
- Use skills and knowledge to assist with the operations of the Animal Feed Drying plant during Campaign. Work closely with the Combustion Operator, and support one another in the Combustion Plant (CHP and AF Drying)
- Share knowledge to help train other peers and apprentices
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies required include;- L3 Diploma/BOAS, or combustion process or similar
- Experience in running a CHP/Boiler house operation
- Combustion or engineering apprenticeship, or similar
- Knowledge and experience within related industrial processes
- Process experience in the energy world of operating and / or technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical items relating to water treatment, boilers, gas turbines, steam turbines and fuel system knowledge
- Working with technically competent people in Industrial environment
- Work safely under pressure
- Self-motivated & understand the needs of the customer
- Ability to start and stop a complex operation using personal knowledge and the knowledge of those around you
- Analytical capacity for identifying technical issues/opportunities to ensure CHP delivery
- Work well within a shift and support teams
- Able to prioritise and coordinate work activities based on operational needs
