HR Data and Recruitment Officer

Northampton High School

Location

Northamptonshire | United Kingdom

Job description

Hours: 29 - 36 hours per week, full year (some flexibility on this would be considered for the right individual - see details below)

Are you currently a School HR Officer seeking a new role or a HR Officer looking to work within a school? If so, we would love to hear from you as we have a fantastic opportunity to play a key role supporting the smooth implementation of HR processes in our school, with particular focus on data compliance and recruitment.

Reporting into the Director of Finance and Operations, this role will line manage a HR Administrator and work in close collaboration with Trust Office HR Business Partner support.

The role will have full responsibility for accurately maintaining the Single Central Record for internal audit and ISI inspections, and ensuring adherence to all Safer Recruitment practices, from ensuring all visitors, contractors, supply and self-employed workers have the appropriate level of clearance, through to overseeing the recruitment, onboarding and induction of all new staff. Activities will include leading the coordination of assessment centres, initiating DBS applications and other pre-employment checks, supporting absence management processes, note taking in employee relations cases, and the management and maintenance of staff records.

The successful candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills, proven experience of handling sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy, and the confidence to challenge compliance with HR policies at all levels. Excellent IT skills are required, particularly in using SIMS and Microsoft/Google applications. Keeping calm under pressure and being able to work to tight deadlines are also key so organisational skills and high attention to detail are critical.

Previous experience in a busy HR role is essential, preferably within an educational setting. We are looking for the right individual so whilst this is an in-school role, some ad-hoc hybrid working may be possible on occasion, dependent on needs of the school. We are also open to consideration of number of hours per week between 29 (4 days) to 36 hours (full-time) and/or some flexibility on number of weeks worked (i.e. term-time plus 4 weeks for example).

We aim to support individuals with work-life balance so working patterns would be open to negotiation with the right individual, provided the individual can meet the needs of the role. We operate 7 days a week, all year round, so whilst normal working patterns are Monday to Friday there could be odd occasions where HR support is required at reasonably short notice for a specific time of day.
