About us
The Obstetrics and Gynaecological Department is part of the Women and Children’s Clinical Service Centre and is based at Queen Alexandra Hospital. The maternity service has 88 beds and will be responsible for approximately 6000 deliveries in 2024. There are four Midwife led birth centres in the district, one of which is co-located with the Consultant Unit.
Additionally the Gynaecology Department sees approximately 6500 new patients per year and performs over 3000 elective procedures. There is a 12 bed Gynaecological Inpatient Unit, Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit and Gynae Emergency Assessment Unit. We share day unit facilities with other specialities. There are sub speciality units of Gynaecological Oncology and Urogynaecology, and accredited Colposcopy and Endometriosis centres.
The Consultant clinical duties:
The direct clinical care will include general antenatal clinic, elective caesarean section list, general gynaecology clinic, gynaecology theatre list and ward cover. Each consultant also participates in the Hot Week rota on average 5 times a year when normal daytime elective activity is cancelled to allow for covering the Labour Ward or Gynaecology Emergency Unit.
On call requirements
The post holder will be required to participate in the obstetric and gynaecology on call rotas including resident on call until 10pm week days and six hours resident on Saturdays and Sundays when covering obstetrics and weekday nights from home when covering gynaecology.
This is a temporary Locum Consultant position and will be based at Queen Alexandra Hospital.
