FINANCE AND HR MANAGER - Required as soon as possible 

Band 5 SCP Point 19-22

Salary - £29,777.00 - Pro rata, part-time, term time

Working Hours – Part Time/Flexible (25 hours per week + 5 INSET days)

This is a popular school with enthusiastic, well-motivated and hardworking staff and pupils. The Headteacher and Governors wish to appoint an exceptionally well-organised and experienced Finance and HR Manager to deliver effective school administration, including finance, human resources, Health and Safety, and facilities management.

This is a varied role where no two days are the same, it is essential therefore that the successful candidate must be able to work under pressure, have a high level of personal drive, energy and resilience. 

The successful candidate will need to possess excellent communication skills and will need to respond effectively to changing priorities, using their initiative as well as having excellent organisation skills. Confidentiality and professionalism are key attributes for this role. 

The successful candidate will have a flexible approach to work and will be prepared to undertake a wide range of duties as typical within a busy school office. With this role, ideally you will need to have finance experience. The HR part of the role is purely transaction processing, posting adverts onto GMSS website, chasing references, processing staff absence and additional claims etc. you don’t need to be a HR expert, it is more finance and admin.

Main Purpose: 

The Finance & HR Manager is responsible for the day to day financial operations and HR functions of our school. They will advise on and implement the day-to-day support that enables the school to operate effectively and efficiently and that allows members of the leadership team to focus on teaching and learning. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Financial Management: 

⦁ In partnership with the Head teacher, manage the school budget and ensure it is balanced, realistic and represents an effective use of public funds. 

⦁ Lead on procurement processes, managing tenders where appropriate, conducting due diligence, benchmarking and evaluating suppliers, negotiating deals and ensuring value for money ensuring that the Procurement Policy and Scheme of Financial Delegation are adhered to. 

⦁ Maintenance of school contracts register, including responsibility for renegotiating or cancelling contracts and updating school records.

⦁ Operation of FMS software to record financial transactions, including orders, invoices, journals, debit card expenses and receipts. 

⦁ Reconciliation and input of monthly payroll control journal. 

⦁ Oversee BACs banking arrangements and payments

Human Resources: 

⦁ In conjunction with the office staff be responsible for the schools Single Central Record ensuring all necessary pre-employment checks are completed and recorded. 

⦁ Ensure that recruitment, appraisal, disciplinary and grievance policies are administered in accordance with school guidelines and employment law. 

⦁ Advise on HR issues within school and liaise with Schools HR provider. 

⦁ Be responsible for staff recruitment process to include advertising ensuring that adverts, job descriptions and application forms are current and accessible. 

⦁ Input any staff contract/payroll changes, including new starters, leavers, amendments to working hours or allowances and staff overtime on iTrent. 

⦁ Implement the outcome of the annual performance management process including confirmation of salary letters to staff. 

⦁ Advise the Head teacher on staff absence management and ensure that Managing Attendance procedures are followed consistently in school. 

⦁ Be responsible for communicating with absent staff, arranging OH referrals and appropriate attendance meetings with employee, Head teacher and Employee Relations.

⦁ Attend HR briefings as required by the Head teacher. 

Other: 

⦁ The Finance & HR Manager will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and follow school policies and the staff code of conduct. 

⦁ A commitment to promote the ethos and values of the school in order to ensure the best outcomes for all pupils. 

⦁ Strong organisational and communication skills

⦁ To undertake any other unspecified duties commensurate with the grading and nature of the role. 

⦁ Ability to adapt quickly and work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Relevant Experience: 

⦁ Successful management experience in a school or in a relevant field outside education

⦁ Experience of Financial management including procurement and reconciliation 

⦁ Experience of HR policies and procedures 

⦁ Understanding of data management and confidentiality 

⦁ Proficiency in SIMS and FMS is essential. 

⦁ Experience of GMSS portal system is desirable. 

Education / Qualifications: 

⦁ Minimum of 5 good grade GCSEs including English and Maths 

⦁ Relevant finance or HR qualification is desirable.
