Job description
The opportunity:
OnBuy is growing and we have an opportunity for an experienced Data Engineer to join an expanding team within a fast-paced eCommerce environment. You will have the chance to maintain and develop the analytics platform that empowers stakeholders across the organisation to make decisions.
Who we are:
We are on a mission to provide 'the most transparent and fair-trading platform' for sellers, and a place where buyers can easily find what they need, every day. What sets OnBuy apart from other marketplaces is that we don't compete with our sellers, we don't sell our own products and we don't have our own warehouses. This creates a more efficient business model that allows us to focus on the customer experience and helps us to reinforce trust in our sellers, and the platform itself. We have recently been recognised as being one of the fastest-growing eCommerce companies in the world.
Your role will involve:
- Being responsible for building out the business's analytics capabilities using leading cloud based tooling.
- Being responsible for designing and documenting solutions that bring new datasets into the business.
- Being responsible for maintaining semantic level transformational models that empower decisions across the organisation.
- Design and release user-accessible business reports in line with requirements and existing outputs.
- Driving innovation in the marketplace through the development of data products.
Requirements
We’re looking for:
- Experience developing and managing cloud based data warehousing environments (Bigquery, Snowflake, Redshift)
- An understanding of ETL / ELT tools and software (Airbyte, Fivetran, Stitch).
- The ability to create and manage multiple data pipelines through development environments into production.
- The ability to transform raw data into usable business datasets that have multi-purpose uses and bring the data to life for the end user (preferably DBT).
- An understanding of data orchestration (Apache Airflow or other DAG focussed solutions preferable).
- A basic understanding of MySQL architecture for application data replication purposes.
- Experience of extracting data from REST APIs and ingesting into warehousing environments.
- Use of visualisation tools for self service analytics in previous positions (e.g. Google Data Studio, Tableau, Looker).
- Basic GCP administration experience (Terraform working knowledge would be a nice to have).
- Coding Skills:
- SQL - ability to write complex SQL queries for normalisation data model creation.
- Python - working experience with the ability to write DAGs to extract data from third party APIs.
- Commercial experience of versioning controlling software using GIT.
- An understanding of Data security, cloud permission management and data storage (cross country/continent).
- An understanding of CI/CD pipelining for software release. GitLab CI/CD or Github Actions experience would be a nice to have.
