Chief Engineer – Hydrogen
70,000 – 75,000
Cardiff, with hybrid working

About the role:
Astute's Renewables team is partnering exclusively with an innovative company in the decarbonisation space and specifically, to decarbonise the UK's heavy duty road transport. They're looking for a highly capable Chief Engineer to help them achieve this and to be responsible for the engineering and construction activities.

This Chief Engineer role comes with a salary around the 70–75,000 mark but I would be keen to hear from those who would perhaps require more than this.

Responsibilities and duties:
Reporting to the Head of Function you will:

• Manage the technical execution of projects and provide subject matter expertise where required
• Lead the site engineering execution activities
• Be responsible for leading feasibility studies, site identification and selection, technical investigation, grid connections, consenting and drawing on other expertise when required
• Work very closely with shareholding companies to drive the company forward
• Lead in procurement activities for engineering services required for the development phase and help to oversee key project deliverables
• Develop technical scopes
• Lead the development and procurement of fixed hydrogen refuelling stations
• Compile project reports and provide project status updates to the MD
• Support the identification of viable sites for hydrogen project development using site conditions, transmission, permitting and environmental issues
• Full job spec available on request

Professional qualifications:
We are looking for someone with the following:

• MEng engineering degree or equivalent in chemical/process, mechanical, electrical or EC&I disciplines

• Demonstrable experience in a similar position, ideally a minimum of 5 years
• An understanding of hydrogen generation, compression or dispensing technologies is beneficial
• UK driving licence is essential

Personal skills:
The Chief Engineer role would suit someone who is/has:

• Very process driven, meticulous and organised
• The ability to constructively challenge and provide viable solutions
• Flexible with location at times
