What to expect 

The GME Pre Construction Team, are seeking a highly motivated and engaged Principal Designer to support our growing Pre-Construction Team, within the wider Infrastructure Department.

As a new and growing department, you will help steer and develop new, efficient ways of working, and seek to implement robust adherence to CDM regulations, across our multiple technology groups (such as Trim & Final, Body in Wite, Stampings, etc…).

Working with our Customers and wider Manufacturing Engineers, you will take a lead role in supporting the client (JLR) in compliance as well as helping to compile / review prework information and putting together health & safety files among other H&S support duties.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities will include:

• Plan, manage and monitor health and safety in the pre-construction phase, including identifying, eliminating or controlling foreseeable risks; and ensuring designers carry out their duties.
• Preparing the health and safety file and then reviewing, updating and revising it as the project progresses and compile information to submit the F10 notifications. Submit/keep up to date the form F10.
• Assist clients with compiling and issuing the Pre-Construction Information packs to be issued to designers and contractors.
• Review the Construction Phase Plan and advise duty holders on their CDM roles and responsibilities.
• Ensure competence and the project construction phase is carried out without risks to health and safety by regularly auditing the site and issuing reports.

What you'll need

In order to be considered for this position it is advantageous to hold a formal qualification such as Degree within Construction / Engineering related area or suitable experience in manging H&S in a construction industrial environment. The successful candidate needs to have a clear understanding of Manufacturing Processes including Lean manufacturing; be an excellent communicator, having the ability engage and influence at all levels of the organisation and the ability to motivate and drive the team through tough challenges.

Essential

• Preferably NEBOSH qualified and have track record of delivering / assisting with H&S in construction.
• Ability to challenge the GME Engineering team to drive H&S best practice at design stage and support at delivery stage as required.
• In depth knowledge of H&S relevant regulations & guidance.
• Understanding of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
