Job description

Great Bay Community College is seeking qualified applicants who are interested in adjunct teaching at the College on a course-by-course basis; a strong academic background is required.

Semester: Fall

Adjunct Faculty: Surgical Technology

The lab adjunct faculty instructor shall be responsible for the instruction and supervision of no more than 10 students during lab learning activities. This position is 1 day a week, Wednesday, (8 hours) for 16 weeks. The timeframe is August 28 - Dec 16, 2023. A separate contract will be provided for lab instructor to set up lab, go through inventory, order supplies, etc., before the semester starts.

The instructor will be responsible for preparing and teaching a 16-week freshman practicum curriculum course following the current edition of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Core Curriculum as well as any ARCSTSA policy, procedures, and guidelines. The instructor must provide instruction, supervision, and timely assessments of the student’s progress in meeting program requirements in the lab setting.

Courses: SURG119G Surgical Technology Fundamentals Lab (Fall 2023)

Adjunct appointments are temporary, for a specified contract period and require classroom and online instruction.

The minimum qualifications for the position are as follows:

Education: Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency and have an associate degree in Surgical Technology.

Experience: Have a minimum total of two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.

Licensure: Certification in Surgical Technology or equivalent

The compensation rate is $750-$900 per contact hour [or $47.00 - $58.30 per clinical rate per hour]. Compensation will be determined based on the appointed adjunct faculty rank, which is based on education and industry and/or teaching experience.
