Job description
Internal Audit is a legal requirement for all local authorities. The Council’s Internal Audit Plan seeks to inform an evidence based opinion over the organisation’s entire governance, risk and control framework and add value in supporting service areas to maximise efficiencies and constantly strive to improve. The Principal Auditor will play a significant and valuable role as the most senior and qualified auditor in the in-house team, reporting directly to the Internal Audit Manager to ensure the delivery of the assignments in the Audit Plan enabling the Head of Audit and Risk Management to give their statutory annual opinion on the control environment.

We are a small, friendly in-house team that has been delivering internal wanting to develop an innovative service which understands management’s assurance needs and supports management in risk-based improvement of the control environment and securing value for money. Recruitment of an experienced principal auditor who can bring with them their local government internal audit experience is the next phase in the development of the in-house audit function.

An experienced and qualified principal internal auditor wanting to expand their experience. The role would also be ideal for an experienced senior internal auditor seeking career progression. Local government experience, detailed working knowledge of internal audit best practice and PSIAS and good time management are essential. The successful candidate will have strong IT ana data analytics skills and experienced in undertaking complex general audits. They will be proficient in analysing and assimilating information, have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be confident in engaging with officers at all levels including senior managers. The ability to generate innovative ideas and practical solutions is a key requirement for the role.
