Job description

Core clinical work The initial psychiatry appointment will be to make the formal diagnosis of ADHD after the previous assessment / meetings in which an ADHD diagnosis was felt to be indicative. Management options will be discussed in accordance with NICE guidelines. These could include signposting to First Point (post diagnostic service), discussing and commencing ADHD medication and/or managing co-morbidities. Medication would be monitored in follow up clinic with physical health / side effect monitoring. After titration and stabilisation, patients would be followed up in the ADHD monitoring clinic. Consultation and supervision for the ADHD clinic nurses and participation in duty prescriber rota will be part of the role. The post holder will not have any out of hours responsibilities. The Specialty Doctor will be expected to accumulate their own out-patient load from new referrals and help out with known patients in out-patients, and pick up ongoing patient management through the team as appropriate. The Specialty Doctor is expected to contribute to the bio-psychosocial model of care with the other members of the multi-disciplinary team. This includes history taking, mental state examination of all patients and the physical examination of outpatients where appropriate. The treatments may be physical, pharmacological, psychological and social as appropriate. The CAMHS team offers various psychological therapies such as CBT, family therapy, IPT and DBT. The postholder will be expected to adhere to the policies and procedures in support of the caseload, maintain appropriate professional records, confidentiality, administration of out-patient clinics and the appropriate admin/discharge and referral procedures. There is an on site Duty Consultant every day of the week to support and provide consultation to the Specialty Doctor with respect to any urgent assessments / matters. This is separate to the weekly clinical supervision sessions which will be provided by the supervising Consultant. The postholder will be expected to utilise the Care Programme Approach, and also the New Mental Health Act, the Children Act and the Mental Capacity Act when required. The postholder will work in partnership with other professionals/agencies involved in the care of young people, across departmental and organisational boundaries. This includes providing regular consultation to other agencies involved in the care of young people. The postholder will attend regular (weekly) supervision meetings with the Bury CAMHS Lead Consultant, Dr. James Glass. This provides a forum for discussing and receiving advice with respect to their clinical cases, learning from their Consultant supervisor and caseload management. The postholder will provide mutual prospective leave cover for annual and study leave with the other Bury CAMHS specialty doctor.
