About the role

This company is a small but very well funded part of a larger European group and has ambitious plans to double its turnover over the next 3 years, having developed a number of best selling products they are looking to appoint a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to their design team. The company offers a strong employment package with great career development prospects for the right individual:
The role will include 6-10 International trips per year of 3-5 days duration to undertake site surveys on customer machines in order to produce drawings for retrofit components so candidates who cannot travel need not apply.

Duties:
Visiting customer to discuss their requirement and undertake site measurement
Create design specification
Design of full system and production of BOMs
Provide technical support for manufacturing
Provide installation advice and guidance to Engineers

Essential Skills and Experience:
5 plus years’ experience in bespoke machinery or other rotating equipment industries
Qualified to Degree, HND level or Apprentice-trained with relevant experience
Extensive 3D design capability (Inventor or similar) designing asemblies of circa 200 components
Experience in producing BOMs on MRP system
Ability to produce designs using standardised components to allow integration into future projects, whilst being optimised for efficient, economical manufacture with inbuilt flexibility
Ability to follow Engineering Management of Change procedures, preferably with experience of Autodesk Vault
Practical on-site engineering skills and methodology, particularly a good level of metrology experience
Ability to understand and design pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Experience in producing 2D manufacturing and assembly drawings to BS 308/8888
Good time management skills to achieve deadlines and ability to manage own workload
Good communication skills with up and downstream customers both internal and external aiding as and when required

Nice to have any of these:
Fabrication and Sheet metal experience
Electrical systems experience including knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLC)
2D CAD experience using Autodesk AutoCAD
A willingness to improve designs in a structured/methodical manner to negate new and existing problems
Desire to conduct research and development (R & D), combined with physical testing where required.
