Our client is a leading provider in drug and alcohol toxicology for legal proceedings. The business provides a specialist level of forensic investigation, testing and reporting in child protection cases. Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate research and development tasks, providing oversight to developing processes and new techniques.
- Providing high quality technical, scientific, and regulatory advice, including formulation of new methodologies within the laboratory/technical reporting team.
- To ensure that people management is conducted following Company policy and procedures, staff members have a training plan and are supported in meeting their objectives thereby ensuring team/department and organisational performance.
- Preparing proposals and justifications for new laboratory services and instrumentation whilst ensuring processes are optimised and robust.
- Project managing and delivering finished documents to support submission requirements and ensure lean implementation of new methods into team workflow models.
- Planning, optimising and executing project work, leading on method validations and verifications as requested.
- To plan and oversee workforce planning to deal with customer demands including devising plans to upscale operations to cope with planned growth.
- Contributing to and actively monitoring a comprehensive, effective laboratory quality programme. Ensuring timely and efficient delivery of quality laboratory results.
- Supervises and monitors performance in external and internal quality assurance schemes.
- Drive customer engagement and understand the requirements of customers and incorporates these into the operation of the laboratory.
- Undertake regular reporting to senior management team on progress against objectives and support in strategic planning.
- Be accountable for end-to-end workstream processes i.e. from sample through to release of analytical results to the designated expert team.
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with key internal/group stakeholders to ensure accreditation status of the laboratory is maintained, including the review and development of standard operating procedures.
- Works with key internal and external contacts to ensure regulatory compliance within a range of areas e.g. health and safety, technical reporting etc.
- Drive company values and develop a clear business proposition.
The Successful Applicant
A successful Director of Scientific Operations should have:
- Degree in an appropriate scientific subject. Higher degree qualification (Masters/PhD) preferred.
- Experience in leading and managing a team within the forensic testing industry.
- Experience of working within a scientific, laboratory organisation including method development from conception to full accreditation, supporting business success/performance
- Strong technical knowledge of modern analytical techniques, LC-MS/MS, LC-TOF or GS MS/MS and instrument maintenance/troubleshooting.
- Proven track record of strategic planning and execution.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
- Knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures.
- Ability to represent the company effectively in a variety of settings.
