Job Title: Communications Lead
Location: Torridge, Devon
Contract Type: Part-Time, 3-Month Contract (Hybrid)
Salary: £30/hr
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead the communications and consultation strategy to enhance the Council's profile and reputation.
- Collaborate with the HR & Communications Manager to develop a coherent business plan with input from Lead Members and Senior Managers.
- Manage resources effectively to deliver business and service plans.
- Undertake project work related to communications, including ensuring compliance with accessibility requirements.
- Prepare media responses, press releases, and interview opportunities, handling high-level and sensitive media issues.
- Implement, deliver, and report on the communications strategy in line with the Council's vision and goals.
- Provide professional support and training to Councillors, the Chief Executive, and other managers on PR, communications, and consultation.
- Improve internal and external communication with staff, service users, and the public through initiatives such as staff newsletters, fundraisers, and branding.
Requirements:
- Understanding of local authorities and the political environment.
- Knowledge of equalities, public relations, and communications laws and codes.
- Ability to grasp broader organisational issues and national policy implications for local government.
Desirable Skills:
- Understanding of effective partnership working in local government.
- Knowledge of key legislation related to copyright, data protection, and consumer privacy on digital platforms.
