SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1)

Job description

We are working with a fantastic SEN school in Lowestoft to find a dedicated and passionate learning support assistant to join their team.

Role:

• You will be working with a child 1:1 within a complex needs classroom.
• You will be supporting young people with SEND through hand-on-hand assistance, using de-escalation techniques and adding a creative approach to engage the young people.

School:

• Each student has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which caters to their independent needs and learning journeys.
• The school offers small class sizes which are supported by a dedicated team interested in providing the best educational journey for the young people in their care.

Responsibilities:

• Support the class teacher, and engage the students in their learning journeys via one to one assistance
• Encourage the independence of the young people in your care
• Engage with students in outside play and extracurricular activities
• Ensure you understand and act upon your safeguarding roles and responsibilities when necessary
• Take a creative approach to education and engage in fun and inventive methods of teaching
• Assist at lunch and snack times
• Ensure that the classroom is a safe and tidy environment

Requirements:

• Kind, caring and empathetic to the needs of the students
• Understanding of complex needs, and a passion to make a difference to the lives of the young people
• Considerate of challenging behaviour
• Able to work as a team, and capable of critical thinking
• Confident in a classroom setting
• Enthusiastic about education and able to take a creative approach to lessons and teaching styles
