Job Summary:
This is a key role within the Global Procurement function driving a high-performance culture and setting the standard for Procurement Excellence. We are looking for a talented Global Procurement Director/Sterilisation with experience in driving the Procurement sustainability agenda who can challenge, engage, influence and drive change, within a transformative Procurement team.
The Global Procurement Director will be accountable for end-to-end Global Category Management for the Packaging/Sterilisation Category and will lead their team to deliver exceptional results visible in the P&L while ensuring that sustainability is embedded in category strategies and supplier relationships.
You will actively lead a team of Category Managers and Strategic Buyers, to develop, and manage end-to-end category strategy and plans for the short, medium, and long term. Identifying a pipeline of initiatives to maximise value and outcomes for Convatec, balancing revenue risk, value opportunities and sustainability.
Your Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- You will develop and lead high-performing Category teams, in the Packaging/Sterilisation category. You will be an inspiring leader - providing coaching, mentoring and support to your team to help them achieve their personal and professional objectives and identify areas for their development.
- You will contribute to and work within the Procurement Excellence framework and governance to ensure that the team deliver the value required through employing best practice processes.
- You will lead the team in the development of fully integrated and customer/business aligned category strategies, including opportunities for productivity, innovation, resilience, and sustainability.
- You will be accountable for having oversight of the development of strategic category plans by the team through engagement with key stakeholders, in order to deliver category strategy.
- You will oversee the implementation of the category plans and manage resources to ensure that procurement activities deliver the expected value to the business.
- You will be accountable for delivering the contracts, agreements, and sourcing strategies for the supply of materials/products that support defined strategies.
- You will be accountable through Supplier Relationship Management for ensuring that the supplier base within the categories you have responsibility for, is continually assessed and developed to meet changing business/customer demands. This will include identifying and driving continuous improvement/innovation initiatives that will generate value through increased supplier performance and/or capabilities.
- You will manage targeted key strategic relationships (stakeholder and supplier) to ensure that the Category Strategies are highly aligned to current and future business needs and that the supply base is capable of supporting these strategies.
- You will harness competitive advantage for Convatec by maintaining an effective and up to date understanding of the supply market, nurturing critical supplier relationships to seek early access to new and innovative developments in the supply base.
- You will play a key role in enabling the ambition of procurement to develop and source more sustainable raw materials in alignment with the Convatec sustainability agenda. You will take inputs from external and internal stakeholders to support the organisation in developing category strategies and plans which deliver impactful change and embed sustainability into all aspects of the procurement of materials.
- You will operate as a leading member of the Procurement function, contributing to the on-going development of its vision and purpose, supporting the continued advancement of the function through active membership and participation of the Global Procurement Leadership Team (GPLT).
- You will be active in the development and implementation of a Procurement Strategy that meets the current and future requirements of the business.
What you should bring to the role:
- 10 years + working within a Strategic Procurement/Sourcing environment employing a formal category/sourcing management process (preferably in a similar regulated industry), and MCIPS to level 6 (or equivalent).
- Evidence of developing and leading a high-performing team of Category Managers and Buyers, operating across multiple geographic locations.
- A demonstrated track record of leveraging sustainability opportunities within the supplier base to ensure optimal contribution to the sustainability agenda and drive maximum value for the company.
- Experience of developing and delivering supplier sustainability programmes through initiatives and projects that have driven Procurement’s contribution in the area of sustainability.
- Demonstrated active listening skills expected in a high performing team and highly collaborative individual who can influence multiple stakeholders and partners across varying levels of the organisation up to Executive Leadership level.
- A clear understanding of Category Management principles with a track record of delivering results across a number of different category areas, building strong supplier and stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to quickly gain a detailed view of stakeholder and business needs in the short, medium, and long term.
- Strong engagement skills that enable you to support, influence and constructively challenge stakeholders to deliver the best outcomes for Convatec.
- Able to demonstrate the values and behaviours required to be successful in the role and support the Convatec ‘Forever Caring’ Promise.
- Demonstrated ability for analytical problem-solving and analysis/interpretation of complex problems, incorporating data gathered from a variety of sources/software tools.
- Advanced level of negotiating with suppliers on all commercial and contractual matters and applying judgement as to what constitutes an acceptable level of contractual risk and supply resilience.
- Excellent understanding of financial principles, resource planning and allocation, and the fundamental drivers of improvements across a variety of business areas.
- Ability to work with a range of technically and culturally diverse people, influencing them to achieve goals in a timely manner to help drive business results.
- Must demonstrate and apply analytical as well as strategic thinking skills, support teamwork, show exceptional judgment, collaboration, decision-making, and leadership skills.
