Grid Solutions, a business unit of the Electrification Systems segment of GE Vernova, enables power utilities and industries worldwide to manage electricity effectively from the point of generation to the point of consumption, helping to maximize the reliability, efficiency and resiliency of the grid. The Electrification Systems segment also includes two other business units:
(i) Power Conversion, which provides energy conversion systems and services across the power value chain from generation to consumption, working at the heart of customer domain expertise;
(ii) Solar & Storage Solutions, which offers a broad portfolio of renewable technologies that can be integrated to develop solar & storage projects, requiring sophisticated expertise and capabilities.
Role Summary
An opportunity has arisen to join Grid Solutions. The successful applicant will be a member of the Grid Solutions Legal Team and will report to the General Counsel of Grid Solutions. This position will be based in Western Europe. The role will be global, supporting the Grid Solutions business in all regions of the world.
The Senior EHS Counsel will act as a key business partner to the three business lines of Grid Solutions, Grid Systems Integration (GSI), Grid Automation (GA) and Power Transmission (PT), working closely with the broader Grid Solutions legal team and EHS professionals to support the EHS legal needs of the business and maintain full regulatory compliance and enhance GE Vernova’s reputation for EHS excellence (about 75%). The role will also involve providing EHS legal support to Power Conversion (about 15%) and Solar & Storage Solutions (about 10%). The successful candidate will be the main point of contact for EHS-related legal subjects and will be responsible for a diverse array of substantive projects and matters with long-term business implications, managing complex issues within his/her area of expertise, and contributing to the overall business strategy.
Essential Responsibilities
• Providing day-to-day legal advice to all of Grid Solutions business lines on a variety of environmental and workplace-safety issues, including compliance counseling on applicable EHS requirements concerning air and water emissions, waste management, chemical management, occupational health and safety, product safety, product stewardship, acquisitions and divestitures, property development, remediation and real estate;
• Representing the business before regulatory agencies, including enforcement proceedings and administrative hearings, and preparing and reviewing EHS-related license and permit applications;
• Providing legal advice and support on EHS aspects of commercial transactions, product development and product safety, including review and negotiation of commercial contract terms with customers, partners and suppliers and review and release of customer communications;
• Supporting environmental due diligence and negotiation of EHS-related contract terms for business acquisitions, divestitures and property transactions;
• Participating in compliance audits of manufacturing facilities and project/service sites;
• Providing legal advice and support related to remedial liabilities arising from historical operations and acquisitions;
• Managing EHS-related litigation, if necessary, in a cost-effective manner to achieve business objectives, in coordination with the Head of Dispute Resolution;
• Conducting training and providing updates on EHS-related legal and regulatory developments and risks;
• Working closely with other functional teams (e.g., quality, EHS, sourcing, compliance, litigation) to support related matters and coordinating with other EHS lawyers in GE Vernova to implement best practices and provide strategic advice.
The role involves some travel worldwide.
Qualifications/Requirements/Desired Characteristics
• J.D., LL.M. or equivalent degree from an accredited law school.
• Member in good standing of the bar in at least one jurisdiction (U.S. state, UK, or EU country, depending on local bar-admission rules for in-house counsel).
• Ten to 15 years’ EHS experience in a prominent law firm, corporate legal department or governmental agency with working knowledge of environmental, health and safety laws and regulations on an international scale.
• Ability to understand the impact of the regulations on the business and interpretation into actionable plans.
• Transactional experience in domestic and international contract drafting and negotiation.
• Experience in claim negotiation and dispute resolution (including litigation, arbitration and mediation).
• Personal integrity, trustworthiness, strength of character, ability to influence decisions and leadership.
• Ability to deal with ambiguity, different or unexpected circumstances, embrace rapid change.
• Flexibility to resolve complex legal issues quickly and efficiently with a strong sense of prioritization, ability to cope with pressure and multiple deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong business acumen with a focus on problem-solving and pragmatism.

• Language skills: fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in other (especially Western European) languages in an asset.
• Familiarity with engineering, procurement and construction (EPC)/turnkey projects in the energy sector would be an advantage.
