Job description
Your job Thorn Lighting are recruiting for a Global Technical & Local Strategic Buyer to join our Purchasing team at our Spennymoor office. Reporting into the Head of UK purchasing, your remit will consisting of a wide range of strategic and tactical activities on both a technical and global level.
Main accountabilities include:
Technical Focus: - Regular benchmarking of current sources (also in cooperation with other plants/other plants suppliers) in order to create competitive environment assuring optimal costs.
- Make sure that suppliers are regularly evaluated, preferred suppliers are listed as well as known by stakeholders.
- Continuous assessment and development of whole supplier base with focus on Quality, logistic-and service performance as well as customer service level.
- Support local supply chains as main escalator in case of supplier non/low performance.
- Drive and perform make or buy decisions in the area of responsibility in order to optimise Commodity purchasing process based on Total costs of ownership.
Global Focus: - Looking after standardisation regarding material, parts and suppliers already in NPD/CPD by knowing strategy within responsible material groups.
- Being interface between supplier and R&D. Developing guidelines of interaction between technical Purchasing and R&D.
- Defining material description to be used in SAP to allow easy access for all function and avoid duplicates in system.
- Leading and supporting Projects in Purchasing/SCM area. Act as purchasing representative in global/local projects.
- Monitoring First and Second Source Approvals via SAP Tool. Driving Cost Down Activities such as Hoshin/ Should Costing.
Your profile
What we are looking for - Experience of working in a procurement role in a global manufacturing organisation.
- CIPS Qualification.
- Openness to travel domestically and internationally when required.
- Ability to engage and quickly build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Commercially minded who can provide evidence of cost saving / efficiency initiatives.
- Project Management skills.
