Live-in Carer

Location

Hampshire | United Kingdom

Job description

Be part of somebody’s extraordinary life

What is the difference between a job and a meaningful career?

It takes a special kind of person to be a live in carer and take on a live in care job. You will spend a lot of time with a person, supporting them to live their lives to the full and building a professional relationship of friendship. A good live in carer is someone who truly cares about others and is not just earning a living. This is a special job, and it needs special people and carers to do it.

Our live in carers earn from £550 per week and don’t need to pay for their food or lodgings, terms and conditions apply.

What does the role involve?

You will live within a client’s home providing one to one care and assistance with everyday tasks such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, and prompting of medication. You may also need to accompany the client to and from appointments. As well as providing care, one of the most important parts of the job is providing companionship. You will be spending quality time with the client and getting to know them personally, keeping them company and taking part in their hobbies.

If required you will also help with personal care; getting in and out of bed, toileting, washing, dressing, eating and drinking as well as long-term support with mobility aids such as hoists.

Experience of caring is preferred, but not essential as full training will be given. More importantly, you need to be a compassionate person with great communication skills and a willingness to learn. Before being appointed, you will need a DBS check and evidence of the right to work in the EU.

How we support you

At Burley’s Home Care we spend a lot of time and effort in the matching the most suitable carer for each of our clients, based on personality, experience and location.

After your successful interview, you will be given your own dedicated mentor to go through your individual training programme. You will be fully briefed on all aspects of the individual care plan of your client including routines, medications, preferred meals, nap times and any other important pieces of information. This protects our carers, and our clients, from the unexpected. Every live in carer is entitled to 14 hours a week break away from the service user. This is normally 2 hours a day when the carer is relieved by another carer or a family member. All placements are different and breaks will be agreed at the beginning of the assignment.

We believe that providing the highest level of support for our carers and service users is of the utmost importance, our live in Care Manager is always available to offer help, support or advice.

Changeover process

Once you join the Burley’s team, you will spend time shadowing an existing carer for a set period of time. This could be six hours if the care package is quite straightforward, or up to 24 hours if it’s more complex.

Have a car or driving licence

It is always an advantage (but not essential) for a carer to have their own car or a full UK driving licence. Whether this is for use in their own break or being able to drive the service user toa dn from appointments, we can offer more care assignments to carers who own their own car. When used with the service user you will receive mileage payments, terms and conditions apply.
