Job description
What you will do in your working day
- A typical day on site starts with a briefing to bring you up to speed with your priorities for the day. You then work alongside an experienced engineer across all areas of the factory.
- You will carry out a mix of routine proactive inspections and maintenance activities as well as responding to factory breakdowns and reactive maintenance
- With the support of your manager and team colleagues, you will start to learn technical knowledge and gain practical skills to support you in your day to day role.
The training you will be getting
You will gain a Level 3 Maintenance and operations engineering technician (with some Electrical) from studying at College with our training provider, as well as various British Sugar internal and industry related courses to help you in your development i.e. confined spaces training, lifting and rigging etc
You will also gain knowledge and experience of process operations through our internal competency framework.
We will develop your communications skills, problem solving and team working skills throughout the scheme using coaches and mentoring sessions, as well as through an Outward Bound programme in the Lake District. Weekly day release to attend College in Kings Lynn for your diploma.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- On successful completion of the scheme you will have the opportunity to be appointed into a mechanical technician role where you will work both individually or as part of a manufacturing team.
- Our operations are large scale fast moving process plants where every day is different.
- You will become an integral part of a team either on days or shift maintaining plant, monitoring reliability or responding to breakdowns to maintaining safe reliable operations that produce products such as sugar, animal feeds, bio gas and bioethanol.
This standard will meet the professional standards of the Engineering Council for registration as Engineering Technician (Eng Tech) by an appropriate Professional Engineering Institution.
