From September 2024, we are looking for an outstanding Teacher of PE and Games who has a specialism in hockey, but also can deliver coaching in the other main sports (football & cricket) to a high level. The successful candidate will work with the Director of Sport to develop all aspects of hockey provision for all pupils at the OPS.
The post will suit an ambitious Early Careers Teacher (ECT), or an established practitioner seeking a new and exciting challenge, who is committed to delivering an exceptional learning experience for every pupil.
Sport and PE are key to the children’s development at The OPS. We are keen that all pupils develop aptitude and enjoy participating and competing in sport. Pupils are taught PE by specialist teachers from the youngest to the oldest ages. Additionally, all boys from Year 3 to Year 8 represent the school in the major games; we often field over 20 teams each week to accommodate the different ages and levels. This role will enable the successful candidate to teach and coach in a well-supported and well-resourced environment, whilst enabling and encouraging a positive approach to professional and career development.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Along with the Director of Sport, teaching PE lessons from Nursery up to Year 8.
- Teaching of Sport lessons across the full age range of the school (Nursery to year 8) in a variety of different sports.
- Coach a team in all three main sports – Hockey (Girls only at present, but would like boys to learn to play asx well), Football (Mixed) and Cricket (Mixed)
- Have the ability to lead the school's hockey programme (for the right candidate).
- Demonstrate experience of coaching or playing Hockey to a high level.
- Be confident in teaching other sports that the OPS do Tennis/Athletics.
- Assist in the general administration of the Sports department.
- Set targets for progression designed to secure good progress for all pupils.
- Maintain records of pupils’ achievements according to school policy
- Ensure all required documentation is kept up-to-date and accessible.
- Provide evidence of planning to those responsible for monitoring.
- To attend home and away team fixtures by coaching and managing the team.
- Promote good relationships amongst pupils.
- Required to fulfil Saturday Duties as part of The Newman Programme (1 term of Saturdays)
General Responsibilities
- To attend assemblies in accordance with prepared rotas.
- To attend staff meetings and liaise and cooperate with colleagues on whole school matters.
- To take a full and active part in the co-curricular programme including after school clubs.
- Take part in supervision rotas for mid-day break times, lunch tables and late classes.
- To attend staff training days and other functions, which may fall outside normal school hours.
- To attend training and staff INSET sessions organised by the School to provide a consistent approach across the entire school staff population.
- To cover for absent colleagues when required.
- To attend parents’ consultation meetings and liaise with parents informally as appropriate.
- To ensure that you are familiar (with all school policies and the contents of the staff handbook.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of children and young people at the School by adhering to and complying with the School’s Safeguarding (including Child Protection) Policy and Procedures at all times.
- Display correct staff identification at all times whilst on site.
- Adhere, at all times, to Health and Safety legislation, and all departmental policies and procedures, to ensure their own safety and that of colleagues, pupils and visitors.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Headmaster or members of the School Leadership Team.
