About the Apprenticeship

The Degree Apprentice Engineer be an integral member of the global Product Design & Management (PD&M) function. This role will be working in our Global Test Automation Team based in our Bath facility. Bath is also home to our Group headquarters and largest manufacturing site where we build our flagship IQ intelligent electric actuator range. 

Working collaboratively as part of this high performing team, you will build your engineering skills, competencies and knowledge of Rotork’s processes and standards. 

You will actively participate in:

• Development of core products
• New feature requests and product enhancements
• Development of new innovative products
• Solving problems with new technology introduction
• Work within formal design principles using best practice processes
• Collaborating with key project and business stakeholders
• Delivering high quality solutions using continuous improvement tools and techniques

You will need to be proactive with a willingness to learn. You will be hands on and driven to ensure the delivery of all activities in line with agreed deadlines.

During the apprenticeship, increasing levels of responsibility shall be given in line with academic and internal training. With scope to explore other opportunities within the PD&M function.

Key responsibilities:

• Fulfil requirements of the development life cycle from research and concept through to final manufacture. Design, implement and test.
• Develop new test methods to perform product and firmware verification against product requirements.
• Develop infrastructure to meet a full range of automated test requirements that brings together the electro-mechanical interfaces with the test development software solutions supporting both product and firmware verification.
• Develop instrumentation to enable test interfaces ranging from monitoring analogue and digital signals through to creating bespoke instrumentation PCBAs
• Develop test scripts using the Rotork Test Processes and Framework to support automated verification.
• Develop common test software and libraries as part of a wider team including participating in code reviews to enable delivery to a high quality.
• Attend and observe design reviews to understand the methods by which Rotork designs and solutions comply with specifications and relevant standards.
• Present project solutions and analysis results to key stakeholders.
• Where appropriate, provide support to key internal and external stakeholders as required e.g. Sales, Service, Production, Buying and Quality Departments.

You will also study towards an BEng degree in electromechanical engineering and in addition to distance and work-based learning you will attend Warwick University for on campus learning for six one-week blocks per year. You’ll cover the foundations of engineering and electromechanical engineering in the first two years of the course. In the third and fourth years, you’ll focus on systems design, including a group project design module, and in the final year you will be required to carry out an individual electromechanical engineering project to apply the knowledge and skills gained over the duration of the programme and create a real-life engineering solution. Following your EPA you will achieve your degree, this standard also aligns with Incorporated Engineer (IEng) for IMechE.

Working week:  37 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Salary:  £23,000 per annum
