The opportunity

The Fuel Route Department at Torness power station is currently looking to employ an Engineer to join the Fuel Route Department. As part of this team, you will regularly face complex technical issues that will require delivery of safe, quality, and cost-effective solutions utilising sound engineering principles coupled with innovative implementation techniques whilst always working within the nuclear industry guidelines.

Pay, benefits & culture

The salary range is between £40,069 and £84,892 , with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Company Agreement.  However, the starting salary for this appointment will be within the range of £40,069 to £71,779 dependant on the successful candidate's competence and experience . You will receive 28 days annual holiday plus bank holidays, incremental and competency-based progression, and a defined contributions pensions scheme.

What you’ll be doing

You will be accountable for delivery of operational activities include plant led processes, procedural changes, programming support/delivery

In order to support the operational demands of the station you will be accountable for: 

• Leading operational activities and drive teams for timely completion of tasks
• Conducting Field Supervision for technical contracts.
• Engaging with and identify gaps in performance and processes and drive improvements through the station Corrective Action Process.
• Supporting the training and development of others within your skillset.
• Managing of Nuclear Fuel, Records and Safeguards requirements
• Driving the delivery of Fuel Route operational plan in all phases.
• Supporting Defueling preparedness plans
• Author/Verification of Station Operating Instruction check sheets
• Completing appropriate Fuel movement authorisations to support Fuel Delivery and Dispatch
• Supporting production of Engineering change paperwork
• Updating and improve procedures.
• Contributing to the objectives of the Fuel Route Business plan and support the delivery of the Fuel Route Golden Numbers.

Who you are

As a minimum, candidates will have a relevant HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. You will ideally have a broad Plant knowledge and an awareness of operational and maintenance constraints. Ideally, you will have experience of working in a planning, operations or engineering function.

The successful applicant for this position will have the following: 

• Knowledge of technical aspects of Fuel Route, nuclear and conventional plant, and of the site license conditions and legislation associated with the safe operation of the station would be advantageous but not essential.
• A thorough understanding of planning processes or Operational knowledge
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft project and/or Primavera
• Build effective cross-functional relationships to support overall delivery.
• The successful candidate will have a demonstrable track record of delivering results. Equally important is having the enthusiasm, determination, and the ability to influence change across the station.
