Job Title: Advisor
Department: Advice and Representation
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary Details: £23,662.03 - £27,386.79 pro rata, per annum
Hours: 36.25 hours per week
Place of Work: Union House, University of East Anglia, Norwich, NR4 7TJ

Main duties and responsibilities
• To provide one-to-one advice and support to students primarily around academic and non-academic issues relating to a student's time at UEA including but not limited to appeals, complaints, engagement issues, disciplinary issues, and housing related matters.
• To work with the Advice Manager to make accurate referrals to, and to work in conjunction with other SU colleagues, University departments and external agencies where appropriate.
• To carry out any follow-up work arising from the advice sessions
• To attend university meetings with clients, providing support and representation as appropriate
• To keep accurate, up to date and confidential case records, maintaining own case records on a database.
• To maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and practices to ensure accuracy of advice, and share this information with other members of staff as appropriate.
• To undertake relevant training
• To provide and maintain information resources for students.
• To support and deliver relevant events at key points in the year as agreed with the Advice Manager
• To adhere to the Advice Centre’s Code of Practice.
• To maintain client confidentiality and to be non-judgmental and impartial in dealing with clients.
• To provide cover for the Advice Centre reception desk as required.
• To support the Head of Department and Advice Manager in providing staff support to Elected Officers.

Qualifications and Education
• Good general education, typically to the Higher/A level equivalent

Knowledge and Experience
• Experience of advising students
• A working knowledge of housing legislation
• Experience of working in a confidential environment
• Ability to manage own time and plan effectively

Skills
• Proficient at Office365
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail
• Able to research legislation and use this to inform advice work
• Able to work within strictly prescribed procedures when representing students
• Able to work under pressure and to cope with levels of variability in workload
• Ability to contribute to the production of advice leaflets and other publications
• Proficient in keeping confidential client records in line with GDPR and safeguarding requirements
• Ability to confidentiality engage with external stakeholders
