Overview job description
- The Senior Telecoms Engineer provides Project Management, Engineering operational Support and Contract Management services to company’s business units.
- The role requires demonstration of strong leadership to support all aspects of the company’s business units including safety, drilling, logistics, field operations and technical services (Projects).
- The Senior Telecoms Engineer interacts closely with the Telecoms Lead, offshore personnel, and other key contractors to establish and maintain strong relationships at all times.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Maintaining awareness of and ensure compliance with all relevant statutory and company HSE standards, actively participate in company safety initiatives and demonstrate a personal commitment to the HSE Policy.
- Ensuring all existing onshore and offshore communication systems are fit for purpose and working as designed.
- Planning, designing and managing the introduction of new facilities and changes to existing facilities within budget and schedule, following company management of change processes and tools.
- Evaluating technical specifications of proposed systems to ensure compliance with existing strategy and Group specifications and recommendations to determine impact on existing infrastructure.
- Carrying out research on new technologies and suggest cost effective recommendations for the use of developing technology.
- Ensuring system cybersecurity guidelines and rules are respected for telecoms systems.
- Managing the mobilisation of temporary communications systems for offshore vessels, rigs, flotels and temporary construction facilities working with vendors and other members of the IS Department.
- Organising work by third party vendor technicians and participation in installation and repair of equipment.
- Liaising with offshore teams from a technical point of view regarding links between offices; telephone, fibre optics, IP network connection, firewalls etc.
- Reporting to Telecoms Lead regarding any abnormal occurrence/equipment failure potentially endangering the integrity of the installation/personnel.
- Maintaining technical drawings relating to telecommunications systems.
- Ensuring safety critical systems (PAGA, POB, All Internal and External Production Telecommunication systems including VSAT, Radio, CCTV, Environmental and collision avoidance) are fully operational at all times as per TEPUK requirements. (OAIVS).
- Looking to reduce costs whilst improving efficiency and availability on the existing communications network.
- Providing support for out of hours on a rota basis so operational service is restored in a timely and efficient manner, on a frequency of 1 week in every 3 weeks.
- Ensuring cover for Telecoms Lead when they are on holiday / absent.
- Travel offshore occasionally to deliver projects as required by the long term plan.
- Maintaining good relationships with clients and customers.
Applicants to this role require
- HND/Honours degree in electronic, electrical or communication engineering.
- Minimum 5 years post graduate experience in voice and data communications.
- Project management skills involved in coordinating a number of simultaneous projects.
- Good knowledge of offshore UK standards, regulations and practices pertaining to Telecommunications systems.
- In depth knowledge of PBX’s (IP), Telecommunication systems such as Radio, Terrestrial, Satellite, CCTV, POB and optical fibre.
- Knowledge of the upstream oil and gas industry and an understanding of its working practices relating to telecommunications.
- Expectation that candidate will have or complete Combined Offshore Survival Certificate (BOSIET) and valid offshore UK Medical within 8 weeks of start date.
- COMPEX training or evidence of awareness of Hazardous Area Equipment environments and requirements.
