Job description
We are looking to appoint an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic Teacher of Arabic with the ability to teach Arabic & Qatar History to all Key Stages, both to native and non-native speakers.
The department offers a wide range of extracurricular activities as well as a vibrant enrichment and mentoring programme. We are committed as a school to promote the appreciation of Arabic culture as an integral part of our students' learning experiences.
The Arabic, Islamic Studies and Qatar History Department progress and resources are also monitored by the MOEHE in Qatar and teaching must follow their requirements. Arabic, both native level and non-native level, is offered at IGCSE and A Level. At KS3, native level Arab passport holders study Arabic, whilst non-native level Arabic is offered as part of students' language choice. The department also offers a wide range of co-curricular activities and a vibrant mentoring programme. The department also offers educational field trips both within Qatar and overseas.
All our classrooms are equipped with interactive smartboards, and students receive iPads upon joining the school; teachers receive both an iPad and laptop.
Joining a friendly and supportive team, you will be responsible for teaching a full range of classes of native and non-native speakers. It would be beneficial to be familiar with Qatar’s MoE curriculum, experience teaching IGCSE Arabic as a first language, as well as having experience teaching Arabic to non-native speakers at KS3, KS4 & KS5, preparing them for success at GCSE & A Level, and also to teach Qatari History in Arabic and English.
An advantage, but not essential, is having experience teaching Qatari History plus French or Spanish at KS3. You should have a passion for languages and the ability to apply a range of teaching strategies that motivate and encourage children to want to learn.
A degree in Arabic recognised in the State of Qatar is absolutely essential. Ideally, you will have a strong understanding of Qatar's MoE directives and Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent.
We are a British international school, and all of our lessons are taught in English, aside from language lessons, therefore a high standard of written and spoken English is essential, along with a detailed knowledge of the UK National Curriculum. Applicants should be willing to contribute in a positive manner to all aspects of the school vision including co-curricular activities.
