Job description
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the primary objective of this new role is to support the Group’s compliance with relevant tax legislation across its activities. The role will assist in driving significant improvement in the Group’s tax agenda by providing high quality output and advice to both Finance and non-Finance team members across the business. Responsibilities will be concentrated in tax, but there will be exposure to the Group’s wider financial reporting process.
We would be happy to consider a full time or part time Group Tax Accountant (min 3 days per week).
Either in a permanent capacity or FTC position (min 6 months).
About the Role
- Support the delivery of end-to-end tax processes across the Group;
- Preparation for the filing of all tax returns, including corporation tax, VAT, and other indirect taxes, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations;
- Support the development of the Group’s Tax Risk Register as a key tool to ensure the business’ tax process and control framework is fit for purpose;
- Consult with tax advisers as required and implement advice as deemed appropriate with respect to Group strategic planning, tax risk management and change;
- Assist with the HMRC Business Risk Review and improving Customs and VAT compliance;
- Coordinating and monitoring subsidiary tax reporting and compliance;
- Production of accurate, well documented, and timely tax analysis for UK corporate tax returns and financial statement notes (consolidated and statutory);
- Take the lead on certain tax projects and improvement initiatives; assist in identifying and implementing process and control improvements including technology and data changes impacting tax processes;
- Provide high quality internal management information around tax, to include producing and developing detailed monthly reconciliations;
- Provide monthly analysis of transactional data, to include Fixed Assets, Professional & Legal fees, and consult with other team members / managers to resolve any posting anomalies identified prior to key reporting deadlines;
- Act as point of contact for the business on queries related to or impacting upon the Group’s corporate tax profile. Assist in supporting the business with tax analysis and advice for projects, such as new business ventures, and provide sundry advice for any VAT-related queries;
- Posting of tax journals to SAP;
- Ad hoc analysis, investigations and documentation, for senior management.

About you
- ACCA / ACA / CIMA / CTA qualified or QBE with 5+ years of in-house or practice tax experience in a similar role.
- Working knowledge across multiple tax areas with experience in indirect taxes desirable.
- Demonstrable experience of supporting the delivery of tax process and control improvements in a commercial business environment.
- Knowledge and experience of accounting for tax.
- Self-motivated and highly organised with proven ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines.
- Proven ability to apply knowledge, explore structures and data and proactively problem solve.
- Exemplary analytical skills with ability to analyse, summarise and present.
- Determination to get things right with attention to detail and eye for accuracy.
- Excellent financial accounting capability, with relevant experience of similar tasks.
- Experience with a range of financial systems and software (eg SAP, Oracle HFM consolidation or similar) and an advanced user of Mircosoft Excel.
- Interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence - being able to effectively consult, influence and engage across the business, including Senior Management.
- Ability work dynamically to short or tight deadlines, to prioritise and re-prioritise.
