Charterhouse is a beautiful school and a wonderful place to live and work. It was founded in 1611 and moved to its present magnificent 250-acre site near Godalming in Surrey in 1872. Few schools can offer such a splendid backdrop for teaching and learning, and the School community is very strong, with excellent relationships between pupils and staff.

Basic Purpose of the Job

The role can include a number of tasks including but not exclusive to: Cleaning of the School, room set ups, post, laundry, housekeeping, waste and recycling collection. Some of these tasks can be within tight deadlines and working with lots of different departments across the school. Operations Assistants are required to undertake the following duties as directed by the Supervisor.

Main Duties

The setup of venues across the school to the correct standards for both internal and external events. This also includes Charterhouse Enterprises events that take place in out of term periods.
Exams support by way of the correct setup, furniture, equipment and papers needed in the appropriate time frames.
Collect post from different locations within the Charterhouse site and process both the internal and external mail.
Logistics across site including collection and disposal of waste/recycling.
The supply and movement of furniture as requested for either pupil buildings or function set ups.
Manage the central stores and delivery of cleaning products to the correct venues.
Working with the Laundry team by collecting and returning the laundry according to the schedule.
Ability to drive School vehicles including the Luton tailgate van
Clean, when necessary inside areas of school to a professional standard and when needed.
Responsible to the Operations Supervisor, Assistant Operations Manager, and Operations Manager

Other Responsibilities

To attend all regulatory training e.g. COSHH, Fire, Manual handling, and Safeguarding.
An option to be trained in First Aid if required

Heads of Terms

Salary

£11.19 per hour. Where available, weekday overtime and evening working will be paid at £14.52 per hour and weekend working will be paid at £19.09 per hour.

Working Hours

Working hours for this role are Monday to Friday, 08.00 - 17.00 a total of 40 hours per week with an hour for lunch (unpaid), all year round; with occasional bank holiday working dependent on the need to provide support to events. It would be expected that Carthusian Day (currently held on the first Saturday of May Half term), the last day of the academic year (generally last Saturday of June) and the weekend before the start of the academic year be considered normal working days.

Working in a School environment, the jobholder is responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom they are responsible or with whom they come into contact and are expected to adhere to and ensure compliance with the Schools Safeguarding Policies at all times. If, in the course of carrying out the duties of the post, the Job Holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School they must report any concerns to the Schools Designated Safeguarding Lead.
