Want to play your part in helping improve the lives of children and young people living in care? We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated CAMHS practitioner to undertake CAMHS assessments of children and young people up to age 18 with formulation and diagnosis, and recommendations for treatment. You will have a therapeutic caseload, offering therapy to children and adolescents with complex needs and will also be working at times with their families.
You will have the ability to deliver a range of interventions for children and young people. Close working relationships with members of the team and partnership agencies e.g. Social Services, Education and others is essential.
You must be able to work independently and have good clinical / therapeutic and case management skills to engage this group of young people. Lambeth is an inner city, ethnically diverse community so a good understanding of diversity issues is essential.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated CAMHS practitioner to work within CLAMHS on a 12 month fixed term or secondment contract 3 days a week. The successful candidate will be clinically confident in carrying out mental health and risk assessments. They will be confident in managing risk factors. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be committed to providing a high standard quality of care.
Applicants will need to have a relevant first level qualification in Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Child Psychotherapy, Art, Play or Drama Therapy with related experience in the psychological aspects of caring for children and adolescent with mental health problems/needs. It is desirable that applicants have further training in additional evidence based treatments. The successful candidate will ideally be experienced in working with children who are looked after and/or young people with complex needs that can be challenging to engage.
The London Borough of Lambeth has a population of 317,800 (GLA 2020). It is estimated that 63% of the population describe their ethnicity as other than White British; 23% describe their ethnicity as Black (11% Black African, 7% Black Caribbean and 5% Other Black), 22% White Other and 6% as Asian.
The Annual population survey, estimates that a third of Lambeth’s residents are non-UK born. Of these non-UK born, 40% are of wider European origin, 20% are of African origin; and 20% of Central or South American origin. Nearly 150 languages are spoken as the first language in the homes of Lambeth school children. Portuguese, Spanish and Somali, are the most commonly spoken other languages in Lambeth.
Lambeth has a child and youth population aged 0-20 of almost 70,000. Over 50% of this number are 0 to 9 years old.

Assessed supervised clinical experience working with children and adolescents with mental health problems/needs or clear evidence of transferable skills.
Working in collaboration with supervisor, service user, carers and MDT in assessing needs, planning and implementing care
Taking responsibility for care delivery in a specific area and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment
A good understanding and some experience of the following: Group, individual and family work, multi-disciplinary work, clinical governance and audit and the process of clinical supervision in CAMHS
A good working knowledge of the following: Mental health disorders in children and adolescents
Difficulties common to Looked After Children e.g. attachment difficulties
Key legislation relevant to CAMHS setting: The Children Act 1989, 2004 and The M All applicants will require a professional training and relevant CAMHS experience in combination with professional registration with one of the following statutory bodies: the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) , Health Professional's Council (HPC), Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP), The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)ental Health Act 1983, Human Rights Act 1998 and Mental Capacity Act 2005
