Job description


An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Adult Community Learning Disability Service working across the Central Locality. The post holder will work within current multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to core clinical functions within the team, as well as the provision of specialised occupational therapy interventions. They will complement existing training provisions by the team into the local communities to support people to stay in their residency/home and prevent escalating need and increased risk of admission.

The post holder will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with knowledge and skills in supporting people with a learning disability with complex health needs. Adaptability, good communication skills and self-motivation are essential. You will also be able to demonstrate that your practice is evidence based and innovative.

The post holder will be responsible for providing a high standard of specialist Occupational Therapy input into the Adult Community Learning Disability Team, working as a community setting as an autonomous practitioner.

The post holder will be responsible for gathering information, assessing, providing interventions and evaluating effectiveness with both individuals and in group settings, drawing from relevant evidence bases, frames of reference and models for practice, demonstrating advanced clinical reasoning skills relating to the effects of learning disability on occupational performance. Their interventions will focus on enabling people to engage in their chosen occupations whilst helping to break down barriers to participation.

The post holder represents a snr clinical resource with specific knowledge of learning disabilities with whom other team members can consult with to help occupational formulation. They will work with the refereed person, their family members, carers/support teams and any other professionals involved in the persons support.

This senior position requires achieving an appropriate balance between the provision of specialist occupational therapy and taking on shared roles that contribute to the efficient functioning of the team.

The post holder will act as an empowered senior clinician in the team, holding responsibility for their own caseload and working efficiently across the Bay footprint and elsewhere in the trust (as required).

Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.

The Trust also provides a range of physical health and well-being services in the community alongside a range of partners in the Lancashire, Cumbria and Sefton area.
