Job description

Bede's is seeking passionate educators – teachers and Higher Teaching Learning Assistants (HTLAs) – who are dedicated to supporting SEND pupils to flourish. You'll join our vibrant Learning Enhancement Department, playing a vital role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all at this exceptional day and boarding school.

Bede’s is seeking to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of Learning Enhancement (LE) in September 2024. You will have the skill and expertise to support every pupil to achieve their best. You will have a proven track record in specialising in working with pupils with special educational needs, including dyslexia, autism and ADHD. You will enjoy working with pupils with diverse learning profiles, be able to quickly identify the individual needs of learners and respond to those needs by implementing effective teaching strategies. To support this, you will be able to liaise with curriculum teachers closely to ensure that the delivery of work is adapted to allow the individual to learn to their full potential.

The department is currently under the aegis of Director of Learning Enhancement, Mrs Cath MacGregor, who will be succeeded by Mr Oliver Young when she retires this summer. The Learning Enhancement department is an integral part of the school and helps to ensure that all pupils are able to access the very best learning opportunities to enable them to succeed both academically and socially, and to feel that they belong. The department oversees the progress of about 380 pupils within the School - just short of 50% of the entire student body. Of these, about a third will have direct support from LE teachers. You will be eager to be a part of a successful department that makes a real difference to the educational experiences of the pupils under its care.

We welcome applications from current Teachers of Learning Enhancement, Teachers of other subjects who are seeking to transition and become a Teacher of Learning Enhancement, or Higher Level Teaching Assistants. You should be confident in delivering responsive learning opportunities, often with a focus on literacy or numeracy, to small groups of pupils that are tailored to individual needs. Further to this, you should be adaptable and enthusiastic in embracing the opportunity to support learners with all aspects of the curriculum and be confident in communicating with parents and teachers about a child’s needs.

Bede's is a busy, energetic and friendly school set in beautiful surroundings. We enjoy excellent facilities and resources and we offer superb opportunities for the personal and professional development of our teachers. We look forward to reading about how you would seek to contribute to the School's extensive co-curricular programme in your application; we are excited to hear how you will infect the pupils with your own passion for learning both in the classroom and beyond it.
