Job description
Job Title: Project Manager
Project Overview:
Our client is undertaking a significant expansion project located on the former Shell oil refinery site on the north bank of the River Thames. The project involves enhancing the existing port infrastructure to accommodate the growing demands of container trade and vessel visits. Prior to this development, the port comprised three berths with automated container handling and storage facilities. However, due to increasing container trade, the port had reached its capacity, necessitating the extension of the quay and the creation of a fourth berth.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning and Execution:
- Develop comprehensive project plans outlining key objectives, timelines, resources, and milestones.
- Coordinate the execution of project activities, including construction of the new tubular piled quay wall and landside container terminal infrastructure.
- Ensure adherence to project schedules, budgets, and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Stakeholder Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, regulatory authorities, and internal teams.
- Facilitate regular communication and collaboration to ensure alignment on project goals, requirements, and expectations.
- Address stakeholder concerns and resolve conflicts in a timely and effective manner to maintain positive relationships.
Resource Allocation and Management:
- Allocate resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to support project activities and objectives.
- Monitor resource utilization and identify opportunities to optimize efficiency and productivity.
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of goods and services as per project requirements.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
- Identify potential risks and uncertainties that may impact project outcomes, such as schedule delays, budget overruns, or regulatory compliance issues.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to address identified risks and minimize their impact on project success.
- Regularly assess project risks and implement proactive measures to mitigate emerging threats.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to the project site and activities.
- Implement and enforce site–specific safety protocols and measures to mitigate risks and promote a safe working environment.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to monitor compliance and address any non–compliance issues promptly.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification is preferred.
- Proven experience in project management, particularly in large–scale infrastructure or construction projects.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Sound knowledge of project management principles, techniques, and tools.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to port development, construction, and maritime operations.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and fast–paced environment, with the flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
- Experience managing projects within live operational environments is desirable.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools for planning, scheduling, and resource management.
