Research Associate (601905)

University of Strathclyde

Location

Glasgow | United Kingdom

Job description

The Centre for Advanced Measurement Science and Health Translation is a newly formed inter-disciplinary research hub hosted within the Department of Pure & Applied Chemistry where the University is partnering with National Measurement Laboratory (NML@LGC) and NHS Lanarkshire to develop cutting edge research projects in the area of measurement science and healthcare technology. Through the recent JPIAMR Distomos Call the University is able to offer a 24-month PDRA position working on electrochemical biosensors and their integration with novel DNA origami structures. The associate will work in the Centre and report to Professor Damion Corrigan.
The JPIAMR project is a collaboration between the University of Strathclyde (electrochemical biosensors), the University of Tartu (DNA origami design and development) and University College Dublin (nanopipettes). Each site will have a Post-doctoral worker and the expectation is that all three researchers will interact across the course of the project to develop novel origami structures and test them using the different sensing modalities. The post at Strathclyde will focus on the immobilisation of novel DNA origami structures onto low-cost test strip surfaces and then evaluate the biosensing performance using electrochemical techniques such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and differential pulse voltammetry. Key objectives of the project include detection of drug resistance gene sequences, bacterial proteins and to carry out whole pathogen detection using novel origami structures. The project ultimately aims to make a contribution to the detection of antimicrobial resistant infections at the point of care.
