About the role
The Project Control and Planning Manager position is a wider leadership role with responsibility for developing, implementing and maintaining all project planning and document control capabilities within the UK, as well as functional leadership of Project Control (PCON) processes globally.
As the Project Control and Planning Manager you will have oversight of all Project Control related activities including, S&OP/SIOP, planning, scheduling, resource capacity management, progress measurement, document management. The role also provides support to the cost management function within the Finance team as well as the bids and commercial teams.
This is an exciting role that will suit solutions orientated individuals with great influencing, leadership and coaching skills.
Your key accountabilities will include the following:
- Provide leadership and support for the project planning team to provide accurate scheduling of project activities and capacity planning for engineering, production, project management resources and any other direct resources. Effectively manage the team to drive employee engagement, development and embodiment of JFD values and behaviours.
- Provide leadership of the Global SIOP process and drive accountability for it’s inputs across functional and geographical boundaries.
- Support the senior project accountant and cost control team in the financial oversight of projects and long term service contracts. Ensure that planning activities support the cost control function through accurate system reporting and scheduling of forecast activities.
- Champion the development of standard templates for definition and measurement of all project activities (including: schedules, project cost and revenue reporting, Master Document Registers, Supplier Document Requirements Lists and schedules etc)
- Provide early warnings, risks, and opportunities to project teams, department heads and management about potential performance failings against project deliverables including timelines and budgets. Ensure key risks and opportunities are escalated to SLT level where required.
- Lead effort in benchmarking and project close‐out requirements, in order to implement lessons learnt and promote a continuous improvement culture
- Support regional offices with definition, specification, recruiting and developing local Project Control capability, and standardisation of PCON practices.
- Champion the implementation and support the continued development of planning, cost control and document control business systems.
- Manage Project Control resources, including recruitment, selection, development and performance management
- Manage the departmental budget in line with business forecasts and objectives
What do you need?
- Significant experience of managing project control activities
- Strong planning and ERP management experience
- Solid understanding of financial reporting
- Commercial acumen and commercial management experience in a project environment
- Strong leadership skills and proven ability to motivate staff
- Experience in the development and implementation of business processes
- Ability to support the assessment of project risks and understand associated contingencies
- Excellent communications skills and capacity to communicate effectively at all levels and with international stakeholders
- Strong negotiating, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office Suite
