Job description
A Farm Maintenance/Mechanic plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of farm equipment and facilities. This position requires a combination of mechanical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a solid understanding of agricultural machinery. The primary responsibility is to perform maintenance, repairs, and inspections on various farm equipment to maximize efficiency and productivity.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance:
- Conduct routine maintenance on tractors, combines, plows, and other farm machinery.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues to minimize downtime during critical farming seasons.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory.
Facility Maintenance:
- Perform regular inspections and maintenance of farm buildings, barns, and other structures.
- Address issues such as roofing, plumbing, and electrical systems to ensure a safe and functional working environment.
- Implement preventative measures to avoid breakdowns and prolong the life of infrastructure.
Welding and Fabrication:
- Utilize welding and fabrication skills to repair or modify equipment as needed.
- Fabricate parts and structures to enhance the functionality and efficiency of existing machinery.
Troubleshooting:
- Identify and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems in a timely manner.
- Work collaboratively with other team members to resolve complex issues and optimize equipment performance.
Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a secure working environment.
- Conduct safety inspections on equipment and facilities, addressing any concerns promptly.
Equipment Upgrades:
- Stay informed about technological advancements in farming equipment.
- Recommend and implement upgrades to improve the efficiency and sustainability of farm operations.
Training and Documentation:
- Provide training to farm personnel on basic equipment maintenance and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of training sessions, equipment manuals, and maintenance schedules.
Communication:
- Collaborate with farm managers and other departments to coordinate maintenance schedules and prioritize tasks.
- Communicate effectively with suppliers and vendors to procure necessary parts and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a farm mechanic or similar role.
- Strong mechanical and technical skills, with expertise in repairing and maintaining agricultural equipment.
- Proficient in welding and fabrication techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
