This role has responsibility for ensuring optimum operational PGM management within the Clean Air manufacturing operations plant supporting the traceability and accountability of metals through monitoring of plant production processes, stock movements, scrap, and refining processes. Reporting to the PGM Control Manager, the role will provide specialist support, analysis, delivery of improvements across the plant relating to metal and material control.
Depending on the site structure, part of this role may include physical management of PGM Strong Rooms and PGM inventories.
Metals management is a complex detailed topic that requires a high level of understanding, intuition and experience to be successful.
- Supports the PGM Control Manager in developing PGM awareness and capabilities across other departments, advising them of their accountabilities of PGM material control to improve financial and quality performance.
- Controlling and auditing of PGM Control activities across all operational departments, troubleshooting of errors and leading problem-solving sessions.
- Identifies sources and causes of variance through monitoring PGM processes. Recommends and if necessary, imposes improvements upon operational departments through introduction or updating of processes and procedures. Organizing briefing and training sessions in other departments where required.
- Provides tactical support for any PGM Control concerns through participation in root cause analysis exercises, ensuring and promoting excellent material control.
- Key role in reporting of PGM control and Chemical control performance.
- Responsible for the control of batch-by-batch mass balancing calculations in all areas of production including updating of the ERP systems through good process order management to ensure metal is correctly traced and accountable. Analyses trends in mass balance, to understand causes of deviation and implements corrective actions.
- Responsible for ensuring good visibility and management of process orders across the operations. Highlighting and escalating areas of concern in daily/weekly meetings.
- Monitors and reviews results from research trials regularly, including but not limited to load cell calibration trials, evaporation trials, homogeneity trials. Data analysed, and actions identified for follow up.
- Supports excellent stock control, including plant wide stocktake and cycle counts, through use of the ERP systems (SAP).
- Responsible for PGM scrap management to optimise flow of metals impacting working capital and P&L. Including accurate and timely of booking scrap on site into the systems, forecasting scrap generation and refining requirements, shipment of waste to refineries, reviewing and approving of refining variances, which may include the need for detailed investigations. Liaison with JM PGMS and third-party refineries also required. Work with other departments to highlight areas of increased scrap generation to drive improvements efforts.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and the implementation of best practice principles, to enhance performance and operations. Leading PGM/Material Control improvement and investigative projects, reporting back findings and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.
- Where applicable, involved in recommending new CAPEX requirements or reviewing proposed CAPEX requirements to ensure impact to PGM control has been considered.
- Where applicable, controls the PGM inbound process, Strong Room/Vault storage and the supply to operational departments.
- Where applicable, implement robust chemical control on the site in collaboration with manufacturing and other departments to prepare information and develop metrics which can be effectively used and acted upon for improvement efforts. Through KPIs with gap analysis to develop and implement a better system and better ways of working to reduce losses.
- Where applicable, managing the sponge & salts material planning system in the site, planning and ordering metal to ensure optimum inventory and working capital whilst maintaining 100% service and availability to manufacturing.
- Supports the PGM Control Manager in ensuring that PGM process maps and procedures are documented, updated and reviewed regularly.
- Supports the business with respect to internal/external, financial, security, quality and customer audits.
- Support and learn from other sites by collaborating on shared data and best practices.
- Adherence to all JM business Standards with respect to EHS, Quality and the adoption of safe working practices at all times. Identify contributions to JM's safety culture. Act to achieve the targets for EHS Total Recordable Incidents Illnesses Rate (TRIIR) and Lost Time Incidents Illnesses Rate (LTIIR).
