Position Summary In this position, you will have responsibilities for developing & implementing strain improvement strategies for producing heterologous proteins, and for engineering strains which will become the workhorse for protein production at commercial scale.
What You Will Do - Engineering Strains (Yeast/ Fungus/ E. coli) to express heterologous proteins
- Design & build plasmids for strain engineering. Transformations into the desired strains.
- Analysis of transformants & mutants for desired phenotypes & genotypes by cPCR.
- Routine screening of clones for titer estimation and develop methods for high throughput screening of microbes. Analyze input and output with bioinformatics methods
- Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems. Plans and executes laboratory research.
- Understand, implement and monitor research studies in a laboratory.
Other Functions - Perform routine experiments and analyse data to interpret experiment results and report the findings. Give presentations to other members of staff on a regular basis on the progress made.
- Set up and maintain laboratory equipment and technology, help the team with cataloguing of chemicals, reagents, and consumables.
- Stay up to date with the latest advances in biotechnology to advance new techniques, products and processes.

Education, Experience & Other Requirements - M. Sc / M. Tech in molecular biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, Microbial Genetics, or a related discipline.
- 2 – 4 Years of experience in industrial research is desirable
- Experience with E. coli or fungal or yeast molecular biology
- Experience with molecular biology principles required for plasmid construction and design, strain engineering, and gene expression optimization.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Bioinformatics skills (Sequence alignments, BLAST, etc.)
- Sterile working technique
- Excellent organizational skills
- Attention to details in experimental operation, lab safety
- Other desired skills include, excellent communication, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and good aptitude for data analysis and documentation
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Manage and prioritize multiple tasks, progresses, deadlines
