Assistant Manager – FPO Operations

ICRISAT is seeking applications from dynamic Indian Nationals for Assistant Manager– FPO Operations to engage with the farmer producer organization in the value chain project activities, operationalize the project on field and interact with the local partners. This position is for the Agribusiness and Innovation Platform (AIP) in the Global Research Program – Enabling Systems Transformation at ICRISAT is based at the Project site-Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.

ICRISAT conducts research on its mandate crops of chickpea, pigeonpea, groundnut, sorghum, pearl millet and finger millet in the arid and semi-arid tropics. The Institute focuses its work on the drylands and in protecting the environment. Tropical dryland areas are usually seen as resource-poor and perennially beset by shocks such as drought, thereby trapping dryland communities in poverty and hunger and making them dependent on external aid. Duties and Responsibilities:

The Assistant Manager – (FPO operations) is expected to:

Work with the farmer producer organizations of the project and facilitate the procurement and marketing of their produce for the Primary Processing Centres (PPCs) located at four mandals of the district namely Kuderu, Atmakur, Dharmavaram & Rapthadu.

Work with the beneficiary farmers on their needs during post-harvest stages of the crop along with facilitating transportation, processing and marketing of their produce.

Work with the FPO in structuring their operations, preparation of the business plan, operational strategy, procurement linking with processing unit operations.

Assure continuous running of the PPCs to generate profit for the unit.

Procurement of groundnut, red gram and millet produce at good quality with negotiated price from the farmers and supply to the FPO’s PPCs.

Organizing training programs for farmers and beneficiaries, through working with partners. To assist on beneficiary survey, obtain structured feedback from the participant farmers / beneficiary on baseline, endline and any other surveys.

Development of a digital framework for inclusion of farmers and assist in creating a platform that benefit the farmers.

Perform any other duties as requested by the management of ICRISAT.

Requirement:

Post-graduation degree in agri-business management and graduation in agricultural sciences.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience of working in similar work arrangement,

preferably with farmers and rural communities.

Knowledge & skills on designing communication materials and its various aspects.

Team player with ability to interact with an inter-disciplinary, multicultural support environment.

Excellent presentation and communications skills and the ability to write clear and concise issue briefs and reports in English and Telugu.

Basic computer skills in MS Office package.

Good written and oral communication in English is mandatory and other Indian languages especially Telugu will be an added advantage.

General:

This is a contractual role for a period of 36 months (3 years).
