JOB DUTIES: The following positions typically report directly or indirectly to this position: Manufacturing Technicians, Manufacturing Engineers, Product Change Control Engineers, Manufacturing Project Engineers, 6 Sigma Black Belts. Provides supervisory support to Operations and Product Managers for automated manufacturing systems, manufacturing processes, gaging and checking equipment, tooling and work standards. Works closely with product engineering, marketing, customer services and Operations Managers to ensure common goals in support of product group objectives. Incumbents will be responsible for supporting the manufacturing operation and Product Groups by managing specific technical functions. Supervises Manufacturing Engineering and Support functions for New Product manufacturing processes, new process justification and implementation, machines, equipment, tooling, work standards, gage planning, Flow planning in logistics/warehouse planning, Layout planning for long term strategic projects, Cycle time planning/analysis/simulation, process validation/Process simulation, future state technology road map with execution and technical troubleshooting to provide the most efficient and economical manufacturing and assembly of quality products. Manages a staff using computer aided design who provides graphic job instructions. Facility layout and area allocations, and related regulatory compliance. Ensures optimum use of equipment and space in support of changing production requirements. Coordinates release dates and availability of machines, equipment and material schedules to satisfy demand. Ensures implementation of modern technology and verifies the effectiveness of equipment and systems. Establishes standards and works with shop personnel to resolve problems related to process, tooling, equipment, etc. Works jointly with marketing, engineering and customer services areas on concurrent product and process designs to ensure products and processes are of robust design and support economical production. Provides project management support for major systems and equipment installations. Responsible for managing new product programs including coordination of product design, component processing, sales forecasting, customer support, scheduling and financial issues to assure meeting customer expectations while meeting functional and cost targets through APQP, LEAN methodologies Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics and affirmative action. Incumbent provides training, development and motivation for a staff capable of completing objectives and implementing cost reduction projects ensuring concurrent product and process design and meeting requirements of the manufacturing/assembly process. Incumbent is actively involved in decisions requiring experienced judgment and communicates regularly with managers of other divisions and departments as well as suppliers in resolving disagreements and providing information. Provides technical input to the development and reviews capital projects and challenges content of projects for validity and value before sending on to upper management for approval. Develops and maintains budgetary controls for the section, establishes and reviews objectives, and provides personnel requirements and future forecasts. Maintains awareness of new technology and evaluates its value to the profit center. Assists staff in developing and implementing new systems and keeps other areas informed of progress. Effectively utilizes APQP, NPI, 6 Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies. The position supervises or manages a work unit of primarily management and salaried employees where planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reviewing work of subordinates is required. The position is responsible for expense budgets, capital forecasts and expenditures, and all personnel issues in the area including performance evaluations of subordinates. The position often confronts complex issues and problems that require careful analysis and diagnosis. Problems are often unique and solutions can require original approaches. The incumbent may modify existing approaches or develop new solutions. The incumbent establishes and then monitors general policies and guidelines for projects under his/her control, to ensure specific management goals are met and desired results are achieved. The position impacts key quality goals including Continuous Improvement, Delivery Timeliness, Equipment Accuracy, Operational Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Capability, Part Quality, ISO., etc. BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: Requires a technical or university degree in an appropriate manufacturing or engineering related field, previous supervisory experience and at least five to seven years manufacturing experience. Requires a thorough knowledge of the planning system, manufacturing operations, facilities, methods and tooling required. Analytical ability as well as communication skills is essential. An engineering degree or equivalent experience in various manufacturing assignments both staff and supervisor, is necessary to support the shop operations. Relocation is available for this position.
