Maersk is on multi-year program to revamp its technology and digital solutions footprint and as part of new strategy, SAP will act as the 'digital core' for the company's major processes enabled by SAP's latest cloud and S4HANA offerings. Maersk has currently ECC based SAP finance solutions running for Ocean and Logistics divisions and plan is to subsume these solutions within revamped green field S4HANA implementation. The SAP Technology Platform holds a central position within this landscape working to define ways of working covering the technical engineering required to build and support the end-to-end promotional model.

Working within the SAP Technology Platform as part of the Release Management team you will be a part of the team that is managing and handling all change promotions to our SAP S4 estate including performing dependency check, code sequencing, ensuring test results are captured, promoting code to production and that all is done as per defined process primarily using the SAP Solution Manager framework. This is a vital part of the ALM capabilities providing the rails and underpinning the effective build, release, deploy and support for our SAP application software components. You will work closely with the product build team stakeholders to ensure alignment with overall delivery needs and following established ways of working.

Job Description:

Role: Engineer SAP Release Management – JL3

Reports to: Senior Engineering Manager Release Management

Department: SAP Technology Platform – Release & Test Engineering

Location: India

Engagement Purpose

  • Working within the SAP Technology Platform as part of the Release Engineering team you will be a part of the team that is managing and handling all change promotions to our SAP S4 estate including performing dependency check, code sequencing, ensuring test results are captured, promoting code to production and that all is done as per defined process primarily using the SAP Solution Manager framework. You will be a key part of the team defining, maintaining, and supporting the ways of working for the ALM tooling, methods and configuration management primarily using the SAP Solution Manager framework. This is a vital part of the ALM capabilities providing the rails and underpinning the effective build, release, deploy and support for our SAP application software components. You will work closely with Technical Engineers across the technology platform and product build team stakeholders to ensure alignment with overall delivery needs and following established ways of working.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Good understanding covering the definition, configuration and maintenance and in some cases the execution of Focus build process's e.g. WP WI lifecycles, transports lifecycle, master and build projects, release cycles, retrofit approach, dual track approach, change control landscapes etc. Coordinate release content and consult on efficient and effective sequencing and scheduling of transports.
  • Work closely to inform and support the users of the Solman framework specifically the product build teams, delivery leads, technical release engineers, technical cutover engineers, SAP Basis team so that they understand current processes and ways of working.
  • Ensures that there is defined and monitored KPI data to support continuous improvement activity. E.g. Release progress reporting – measures and metrics KPIs
  • Actively keep up to date with technical development and configuration management approaches to assess value in implementing at Maersk
  • Engage with key stakeholders – e.g solution architects, agile build teams, SAP Basis, SAP Vendor, Technical Release Engineer, Technical Cutover Engineer
  • Keep a focus on automation opportunities to speed up delivery / release cycles
  • Actively work to support release planning and technical cutover run book reviews and plans.
  • Ensure SAP landscape management validation, synchronization, and stabilization in coordination with the Delivery leads, platform architects and scrum masters
  • Enabling tracking the test progress of Work Items/Work Packages testing during different phases (Pre Int, Integration, BRT, OAT and Performance) with respective test teams – Release Readiness
  • Help to drive the use and development of scripts and automation tools used to build, integrate, and deploy software releases to various platforms
  • Research new software development and configuration management methodologies and technologies and analyse their application to current configuration management needs
  • Pro-actively analyse current processes and practices, suggesting and driving improvements to the promotional model.
  • Is results oriented and has a high degree of accountability, commitment, and responsibility.

Experience

  • 3 or more years of SAP release engineering experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • SME in structured software release processes and procedures
  • 2-3 years' practical S4Hana engineering experience
  • 2-3 years' experience with Charm in Focus build and Solution Manager
  • Good level understanding SAP CTS Process, experience operating in a Dual Track environment with Retrofit in place.
  • Practical experience of SAP product upgrade processes.
  • Ability to work with teams, to influence, to co-operate, to collaborate are essential key skills to get teams working at outstanding levels
  • Strong communication skills across all levels
  • Self-Management is a key attribute expected for this role. Being able to work without the need for follow up or too much management is important.
  • Self-motivated and self-starter once work assigned results are guaranteed almost always.
  • Demonstrated effective analytical and problem-solving skills
