Senior Director- Automation Test

About The Role

In this role you will lead the team of Automation Test team located globally who are responsible for Automating the Software test cases and integrating the automated test cases in Continuous Integration Build pipeline for projects in the SBU. This role will have global responsibility to drive Automation competencies. The person who will be most successful in this position has a good understanding of embedded testing and excellent communication skills with global teams.

Your Team

You will lead a team of approximately 80 members globally (led by 5- 6 leads) located in North America, Europe, or Asia. In this role, you will be also responsible for directing the work of contractors and testing service partners.

What You Will Do

  • Drive automation by collaborating with System Test, Domain and Interface teams and deliver automated Regression (Smoke, Sanity), Functional and Non-Functional test suites.
  • Drive team to develop automated Functional & Non-Functional test cases and integrate the automated test cases in the CI/CD build pipeline.
  • Develop Automation Test Plans, Test Design including all phases of the testing.
  • Develop and Review test automation architecture & test cases based on requirements for all domains.
  • Develop Automated test solution and optimize the script for re-usability.
  • Manage and lead a team of Automation Architects focused on a specific solution area
  • Define criteria for testability of requirements.
  • Train test engineers within E2E test team on the automation skills and follow training plan.
  • Supervises engineering personnel through coaching, planning, monitoring, and appraising of job performance.
  • Create and maintain backlog for SW Automation Test Team
  • Report status, issues and progress of the SW Automation Test Team to the E2E Test Lead.
  • Implement QA process and Automate testing for all the work streams to improve the overall testing cycle.
  • Serve as the central point of contact for all Global Automation Team related activities/deliveries.
  • Work closely with the Project test leads and the Test Pool Lead for identifying the right Automation test resources for the projects.
  • Providing reports on productivity
  • Staff and maintain teams to support all projects System testing globally.

What You Need

  • 5+ years of experience leading medium sized engineering/software development organizations.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Experience leading a matrix organization and managing technology development budgets.
  • Proven ability to coach technical leaders.
  • Command of problem solving, organizational effectiveness, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Experience delivering embedded systems or system testing for automotive systems.
  • Knowledge of process models (e.g. Automotive SPICE®), regarding verification and validation process areas
  • Experience of risk management (risk based testing)
  • 15+ years related technical experience.
  • 6-8 years of experience in Software Test
  • 3-5 years of experience in C#, C and Python.
  • Good experience in Git, Gerrit and Jenkins
  • Good knowledge in Linux.
  • Good knowledge in Android system test.
  • System level debugging.

  • Experience in test methodologies, tools and methods
  • Good knowledge in testing embedded systems
  • Strong Know-How of technical/automotive standards in infotainment or telematics software projects
  • Efficiently meeting deadlines, schedules, and target dates
  • Expertise in working with distributed development teams
  • Business fluent in English
  • This position requires the use of a use of HARMAN or customer-owned vehicles. As such, usage of company vehicles will be contingent upon having a clean driving record, which will be evaluated and determined in HARMAN's sole discretion based on regional requirements.
