About Us

WWF India's Wildlife & Habitats programme is implementing the USAID-supported Asia's Linear Infra Safeguarding Nature project in India, in close collaboration with government agencies and other stakeholders. We are looking for a senior leader to ideate and innovate actions and coordinate the implementation of the project objectives.

WWF-India is seeking a committed project manager for the role of Lead, ALIGN project, India component. WWF-India is a national NGO working for biodiversity conservation and reducing ecological footprints in the country for more than five decades. One of our major strategies is to work with government, private and civil society stakeholders to maintain ecological connectivity in large mammal landscapes. Linear infrastructure development and expansion severely affect this connectivity, which needs mitigation at all levels. WWF-India, with support from USAID, is working with central and state government agencies, a diverse set of institutions, corporate groups and experts to strengthen the implementation of environmental safeguards in linear infrastructure development.

This is a multi-year project, and we are looking for an experienced and self-motivated candidate to lead this project based out of the WWF-India Secretariat in New Delhi. The Lead – ALIGN project, India will be coordinating with the PMT and regional teams and national and state level stakeholders to deliver high-quality project outcomes.

Job Profile:

  • Support and coordinate the ALIGN project's India components, providing advice, building capacity and strengthening implementation of environmental & natural safeguards in linear infra development
  • Maintain regular and close coordination with ALIGN PMT, WWF-US and USAID for implementation of the project in a timely manner, ensuring that quality deliverables are submitted.
  • Identify strategic partners and initiate dialogue and strategic areas of intervention with the infrastructure finance stakeholders, including bank associations, regulators, and others like CDRI, FIDDIC and CLLC.
  • Work with the project team to manage schedules, budgets, assets, and overall project organization to ensure requirements and project deliverables dates are communicated, understood and executed.
  • Assemble project team, assigning individual responsibilities and enforcing accountability, developing and maintaining a budget and schedule to ensure timely completion of project activities.
  • Monitor the day-to-day activities of the technical delivery team and ensure work is progressing as planned.
  • Analyse the environmental and social safeguards, including central and state level policies and guidelines currently in practice for linear infra development through PAs and wildlife habitats and corridors.
  • Assess compliance with the existing policies and guidelines for linear infra development through PAs and wildlife habitats and corridors.
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging best practices on enhancing safeguards.
  • Work with the field teams and core team members for documentation and report writing.

Requirements

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • At least a Master's degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Earth Science, Economics, Public-Private Policy, Conservation Science or a relevant field.
  • Must have at least 10 years of successful, verifiable and relevant experience in Linear Infrastructure, Conservation, Policy or a similar sector.
  • Understanding of Linear Infrastructure development with special reference to environmental and social safeguards.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good understanding of linear infrastructure planning, development and financing at the Centre and State level.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a cross-cutting team.
  • Sound understanding of biodiversity conservation issues and challenges in India.
  • Ability to conduct policy dialogue with governments, development partners and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills across all levels in organizations and across different stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship-building and relationship-management skills with partner organizations.
