Job Description
As Director of Engineering for Observability, your principal responsibility is to guide your team towards reaching its full potential through mentorship and coaching. Bringing a wealth of empathy, you'll uphold high-quality standards while fostering the personal and professional growth of your team members. Close collaboration with peers in various engineering domains, as well as with product management, program management, UX, and documentation cross-functional teams, will be essential to ensure the team's success in delivering value to our customers. Your aim is to empower every team member to achieve their best work.
Responsibilities
- Develop psychological safety.
- Lead and inspire a team of skilled engineers in the development of a groundbreaking Observability product tailored for various services in public clouds.
- Define the technical vision and roadmap for the Observability Engineering Team, aligning it with the overall company strategy.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to shape product requirements, design strategies, and ensure the successful delivery of scalable and secure solutions.
- Drive the integration of observability features into real-time messaging and streaming systems, providing unparalleled visibility into the performance of cloud-based services.
- Champion the design and implementation of support tools and automation instrumentation specifically designed for public cloud observability.
- Oversee the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), ensuring high standards of code quality, security, and efficiency in the development process.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering team, introducing innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Mentor and guide engineering team members, nurturing their professional growth and fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Collaborate with project managers and non-engineering stakeholders to translate technical requirements into actionable plans, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
- Stay at the forefront of industry trends, cloud technologies, observability practices, and security measures, incorporating these insights into the strategic direction and development of the observability product.
Experience and Skills
- Extensive background in software engineering, including application design, code review, and active participation in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Proven success in shaping and executing the technical vision for complex engineering projects, particularly in the observability and cloud services domain.
- Leadership experience with large-scale engineering teams, ensuring delivery of high-quality, scalable, and secure solutions.
- Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams, translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, addressing engineering challenges proactively.
- Technical mentorship, guiding team members in best practices and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Lead development and execution of a cutting-edge observability SaaS platform for high performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product requirements and translate them into technical strategies.
- Provide strategic direction for the engineering team, fostering innovation and maintaining a high standard of code quality.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cryptography, or a related field, with a strong emphasis on hands-on engineering experience.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Rust or C++, with a focus on application development.
- Proven experience in a leadership role, leading and collaborating with engineering teams to deliver high-performance, scalable, and secure solutions for cloud-based services.
- Relevant certifications in cloud technologies, observability, or leadership are a plus.
