Operations Business Risk Advisor, Vice President

Job description/Who we are looking for:

The Business Risk Advisory (BRA) team acts as a valued partner to the Business in the identification, assessment and mitigation of risk. The BRA coordinates across the business and second and third lines of defense to ensure proper processes and controls are in place to effectively address risk, minimize operational errors, and ensure compliance with corporate policy, regulations, and laws.

The Operations BRA will support State Street Global Markets Operations in overseeing and managing significant operational, regulatory and technology risks. The risks are mostly driven by changes in markets, business models, operating models and regulatory requirements. This role will be responsible for monitoring and overseeing Operations’ compliance with regulatory requirements and risk management practices and ultimately improve the risk profile of Operations. This position will report directly to the APAC GM Business Risk Management Lead and will be focused on business risk management within the Asia Pacific region and India.

What you will be responsible for

As the Operations BRA, you will:

• Understand, analyze, and interpret the evolving industry, market or regulatory changes or practices in the APAC region that have an impact to the business and Operations from a risk perspective and coordinate related implementation efforts in conjunction with Compliance.
• Identify and escalate high risk observations, including but not limited to any perceived violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures.
• Provide strategic and tactical leadership of end-to-end issue management and actions to prevent recurrence. Assist in the remediation of control and process gaps to support an effective control environment.
• Improve the identification, quality and monitoring of Key Risk Indicators, including timely reporting and processing of incidents in the incidents database, ICAMS.
• Advise on policies, procedures, business risks and controls.
• Ensure that corporate compliance, ethics, policies and other standards and requirements for Operations are adopted, monitored, supported within the APAC region.
• Assist in the preparation and execution of key risk assessments and controls recertification in coordination with BRM programs team.
• Support assurance activity and key transformation initiatives impacting Operations, and coordinate any resulting remediation efforts as necessary.
• Act as a valued partner to Operations during Audit event with attendance to audit meetings and support to the Operations team; including but not limited supporting Operations in their responses, encouraging constructive dialogue, ensuring observations are valid and performing secondary review of audit points and proposed management actions.
• Participate in Business Risk Forums or other related meetings with Operations to drive risk awareness and accountability and act as the BRM representative in India forums.
• As local manager, maintain a detailed understanding of the scope of the role’s managerial responsibilities and ensure that the team has clear understanding of their reporting lines, scope of responsibilities and objectives.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, management
• 8-10 years of experience in risk, compliance and/or audit functions within the financial industry.
• Experience in Operations and/or knowledgeable on Middle and Back office functions and processes
• Knowledge of industry regulatory requirements and experience with Global Markets businesses
• Strong interpersonal skills, proven ability to work independently and within a team
• Excellent communication, writing, data management, organizational, project management and co-ordination skills
• Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills
• Must be organized, detail oriented, responsive and be able to adapt quickly to a rapidly changing environment
